Selling (or giving away) an ebook online?

Postby Jim Ticehurst on Tue Jan 24, 2012 9:46 pm

Hi all, could anyone one on here please tell me the procedeure for either selling or giving
away an ebook online? If someone fills in their info to recieve an ebook where is it usually
sent from or stored by the sender?

If anyone on here I knows I would certainly appreciate some clarification on the procedure,
many thanks, regards Jim T.

Normally you would send the ebook online to the receiver's email. If they requested it to be sent somewhere else then they should indicate where to send the ebook online.

Thanks Mario I've got to admit that I had kinda figured that bit out already.
The main point of the question was this:

If I buy a book online which has re-sale rights and I download it onto my computer and then I want to send it to others via an email from somewhere like icontact or aweber how do I do it because I cannot send it using the same link that I used to acquire it because the person that sold it to me has completed their part of the deal already, plus of course I want to build my mailing list, not theirs.

But as most of us know when we put our name and email address in to an opt-in box we expect to recieve the ebook straight away, but aweber or icontact are not going to store the ebook for me are they?

Plus of course I am not online all the time myself (even though it some times feels like it).

So I will simply repeat my original question "Where do I send the ebook from?".....

Regards Jim T.

ps: where are all the 'guru's when you need them?

I wrote an ebook a while back. Uploaded it to hostgator. Put the capture form on my blog. Put the links on a hidden page on my blog and they downloaded it from there.

May not be the most efficient way to do it but it got the job done.

Hi Jim,

I have successfully done this and have just released a new report. The way in which I done it was as follows:

1. Create capture page - I used optimize press for this
2. Upload ebook either onto your own hosting (yoursite.com/ebook.pdf) or amazon S3 if you use that service.
2. Add an option form using aweber or similar auto responder service
3. The auto responders first message can send subscriber to a new page which has a link to the ebook or else have the link to the ebook in the email

And thats it.

If you have any questions on the smaller details just PM me and can give more detailed instructions :-)

Thanks everybody there are some very good tips here.
Johnny Walker? boy now theres a name that must take some living up to.....

John I keep meaning to come over to Ireland thats where my family originated from (Crosshaven actually) still I think that me and about half of the rest of the world originates from The Emerald Isle, God Bless you all.

John as regards using Amazon S3 ...quite a while ago I did see somebody explain how to do that and it looked like a very good system the only thing was it did look a bit of a complicated procedure (of course once you've 'got it') then you're ok I suppose.

I just wondered if you know of anywhere where you can watch a tutorial on how to do it? I guess that if I look around I can find somewhere but I thought that maybe you might already know of somewhere....

there were some good tips there, thanks for the input everyone,

much appreciated. , regards Jim T.

If you are selling the ebook, you need an online shopping cart for delivery. Two popular shopping carts are ejunkie and one shopping cart.

If you are giving away an eBook, you can save it as a PDF file, or link on your website, and put that link in your auto-responder's message, so people get it automatically when they subscribe.

I hope that helps.
