Whats happened here, wheres Richard Bravo when you need him?

Postby Jim Ticehurst on Tue Jan 17, 2012 1:29 pm

This is a puzzle can anyone tell me what is happening here:

The websites shown on this post have now been deleted by Jim Ticehurst

I own the domain name http://homebizamerica.com (I just use it as a redirect to an affiliate site).

But I was thinking of maybe using it more locally for a completely different reason so I typed into the browser: http://homebizamerica.com/nv (because I live in Nevada) and you can see what happened....I then typed in http://homebizamerica.com/ca which I believe is the prefix for California...and I got the same again....does anyone have any idea of what has happened here?

regards Jim T.

Although I am not 100% sure, I think someone is pulling traffic from your domain. This happened to me once and it was a hack, so you might want to check into it more with your host or web provider. Hope that helps.

.

Gotta love google alerts... its like getting a Bat Signal when someone needs help!

Here's what I found under the hod Jim...
Looking at the source code for either url revealed a redirect link being embedded.
Furthermore, it appears there is a auto redirect script running on the domain which
automatically creates the pages no matter what you add on the end.

Here is the full source code:

Code: Select all
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
   "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html>

<head>
  <title>homebizamerica.com</title>

</head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" border="0">
  <frame src="http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=1178378/nv" frameborder="0" />
  <frame frameborder="0" noresize />
</frameset>

<!-- pageok -->
<!-- 02 -->
<!-- -->
</html>

This is the part to pay attention to...
The script includes the referring "keyword/directory" in the tracking as you can see below.
In this case you see /NV at the end of the tracking url.
You can also see the affiliate ID here: "af=1178378"

Code: Select all
http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?af=1178378/nv

So here's what you do...
Look at the server to see what is installed at that level.
You probably have cPanel which is quick.
Where is the domain hosted?

If you don't recognize what's on the server and that isn't your 1ShoppingCart affiliate ID, then call 1ShopingCart and find out who it is. You may have a traffic thief on your hands which could very well have come from a hacker or a trojan script running in a random file.

Does that all make sense?

Thank you Cara and Richard I appreciate both of your comments and help.

It appear's that it is an error made at Godaddy althrough I am not 100% sure of that yet.

I am not sure if I entered the domain redirect myself or if I got one of the Godaddy 'helpers' to do it for me....anyway I panicked a bit when I first saw it but I guess that it isn't going to be that hard to sort out ....famous last words?....just another lesson I suppose....

Anyway thank you both very much for your comments and your help,

regards, Jim T.
