Is this typical from this forum?

Postby gail reynolds on Sun Dec 14, 2008 5:51 am

Small question and request...
Is it normal to have several emails with networking opps sent to me from this forum?
Being new on the site i find this a little dissappointing!!... I even got a VOICE MAIL from someone on here....I assumed that if i was interested in someone elses MLM business/network then it was ok for me to enquire?
This has actually put me of the thought of inviting more of my UK network to the forum as this is not what i want for them. I also, would like to request, if this is "normal practice" how can i prevent it from happening? If indeed i can?
Thanks for listening
gailx
Off out visiting my down line now so i hope to be able to chat more later about this.
Many thanks and have a great Sunday!

Hi Gail,

I am newbie here also. I don't think that is typical, I hope not. I received an eamil telling me that everyone should read the rules ... maybe that is what you should do... Reply everyone asking to read the rules.

You shouldn't be getting messages from folks who you did NOT connect with. As for folks calling you... unfortunately, there are bound to be spammers around so you just have be careful of sharing your personal information.

I personally have never gotten a call from someone pitching me a business.

So in short, yes, there are spammers here. Rest assured the management is doing their best to squash them :)
However, also know that there are ways to protect yourself such as scoping out those you connect with.

Hope that helps!

Hi Raymond
thankyou. How do i "Scope" someone out?
should i just delete their friendship from my connections list? is that what you mean?
There is a problem though, as about 3 of the "spammers" had no real name to them so i dont know who they are?...my colleague rachael who joined this forum through me also got several emails and the same call as me!?
thanks again though

What I meant is to check out their profile BEFORE you accept the connection. And yes, you can remove connections with folks whom you suspect as spammers.

What do you mean by 3 of the spammers have no real name? They have a profile here on BN? You should then be able to disconnect from them.

Also, give Carl the Cop a heads up so he's aware of said offenders.

As for folks who call you... we really don't have control over that except that you might consider removing your phone #, screening your call... I don't know.

I have never had anyone contact me outside of BN. You must be lucky or actually unlucky.

Hi Gail,
I am sorta new here too. Alittle over a month now. Anyway, I recently signed up for an ebook, I have noticed this leaves you kinda open to "spam". The problem for me is that I have gotten a phone call or two and while I am not opposed to being contacted regarding the ebook, I have not had a chance to read it yet which makes me feel guilty when the individual calls and I have to tell them that I have not read it yet, I will read it, but in my own time and I don't want to be rushed. I guess if I have questions I will call said individual and let them explain it to me or I will write and send request for consult. So, As far as I know and according to the rules regarding spam it is NOT something that people are supposed to do here.
You definetly want to read profiles before accepting a connection. Most of the folks here just want to help you out. And as stated in the rules there are designated places here to promote your gig.
Just like with anywhere in life there are predators out there, or just thoughtless people only interested in their product without regards to whether or not it is something that You might be interested in.
Take care Have Fun here! There is a wealth of people and info to help here, explore the groups and community and there is bound to be something interesting specifically designed as if they are talking to you personally.

Ladies,

People obviously want to promote their business and there are people who will do it according to the rules and there are people who won't. I don't think people will ever stop speeding either. Ya know? ;-)

Best advice you've been given is review people's profiles and if you don't like their approach or tactics then simple de-friend them and move on.

I am finding BN very informative. As with anything, you must be the judge of what would work best for you and your business.

Best of the holiday season!
