Hey, I have a tough time deciding on one thing:
I have a service I would like to promote in 77 regions with one basic sales webpage. My goal is that whenever someone types in "the name of my service + one of that 77 regions", some of my webpages should always be the first one.
So let's say I make a basic sales letter (6000 characters) in 77 versions and the only parts that those versions will differ in, will be the names of the regions (it will be mentioned once in the title, once in the content and there would be also a list of smaller towns of that region).
So if I did that, do you think Google would index all those 77 webpages? And if so, wouldn't they be penalized for being almost duplicated to 100 %?
I hope I explained my point in an understandable way... thanks for any opinion

.
Yes Karel you explained it fine.
Personally here's how I'd play this...
If you're going to take the time to edit the title and "some" of the content, then why not go that little extra mile and do it right, e.g. sprinkle some unique content in that applies to that region. Switch it up about 20% let's say.
First, it shouldn't come off as totally dup content plus, remember, your first priority should be your readers, if you give that page a little "extra love" your reader will appreciate it and move that much closer to "liking & trusting" you.
Here's a simple "gut check" formula I use...
If you question your own methods and have to ask, then you're probably cutting corners.
Cutting corners is not sustainable - it will only get you so far. So I would say don't do it.
Cheers!

A word about duplicate content.
There's no such thing or at least if there is,
it's not that important.
Think about it.
Great content gets reposted all over the internet.
That's natural. And google supports things that
happen naturally.
But I can prove it.
Go to google and type in the keywords, "marriage advice" or "marriage counseling"
Two very competitive terms.
You'll find my webiste www.MarriageAdvice.com on the first
page of google for those terms.
I haven't touched that site in 1 1/2 years!
Every single article on that site is from EzineArticles.com
It's all duplicate content.
90% of SEO is off page.
All the best.

Re: Would this be a duplicated content?
I'm with you on that David.
I read a post a while back where Matt Cutts from Google mentioned that the only real duplicate content is when the content as well as the actual frame of the site (graphics, themes, headers, etc) are identical.
Something like replicated MLM sites.
But then again, do offsite SEO to one of those and you'll still get it to rank.
Matt also mentioned that as long as they can establish the original source of the content and timestamp it, the credit will naturally go to the original source.
Although that doesn't mean that the original post will rank higher than the duplicates or utility posts that link to it.
I recently submit a 4000 word review titled the Top 50 MLM blogs. Although, when I type 'Top 50 MLM blogs' into Google, I only rank at no 9.
My Digg submission takes no 1 and Mixx no 4, but in between that are sites that literally just linked to my post, including Better Networker.
Then again other than Digg and Mixx, the other only link to it rather than duplicate the entire post.
But personally, I think people take the duplicate content thing a little too serious.
I would love for someone to prove me wrong of course!
George

Re: Would this be a duplicated content?
In my observation when your article are exactly alike then there's nothing to worry.
When you made a lot of version but the content is not the same as the other it wont be considered as duplicate content.

Re: Would this be a duplicated content?
In my experience... duplicate content only hurts you when it's on the same domain.
As long as each page is on a unique or different domain, you should be fine.

Re: Would this be a duplicated content?
If it's not a competitive keyword then you could still rank for it. If it is then you need to have at least 30% unique content. You're best off just making the pages as unique as possible, at the very least make the first and last paragraphs unique.
