Alexa rankings climbing (by dropping), but losing pagerank?

Postby George Fourie on Fri Oct 30, 2009 8:25 pm

The past few weeks I've been putting a lot of content out on my blog which recently got converted to a social and blog network.

About 7 months ago before I got this started, my blog was positioned in /blog and I had a good pagerank of 3.

With the conversion to the social and blog network, I moved my site to the root directory and it remained a pagerank of 2.

In the past few weeks, my Alexa ranking have literally gone through the roof (in my opinion), but this morning I check my site and my pagerank has dropped to 1.

Now, I deep link often to other posts and also out to other blogs which has always counted in my favor. Now I'm just not sure if this is having an affect on my PR.

Any advice or suggestion to get my PR back?

Thanks!

George

Thanks Dean,

I'm starting to think that same thing. My site is definitely and I'm sure that the alexa ranking carries a lot more weight.

Just doing a comparison between other sites that have an alexa rank of 50-60k and they also only rank PR1.

Just thought it was weird that my site was growing, starting to rank better on long tail and primary keywords, yet the PR goes backwards.

Thought it would climb with the alexa rankings. But hey like you said, maybe I'm focusing my time on something that doesn't really matter?

Thanks,

George

yeah dont believe in toolbar pagerank. It just gives an estimate of how much google trusts your site or page.

@Sandeep great resource! I picked up a handful of things that's been on the to-do list. Thanks for that.

@Dean lol! Yeah you're right. I'm building an authority site though so I take everything into account.

@Eric Thanks. Hope Google isn't starting to dislike me then seeing as it's dropping. Cheers! :)
