Hi Everyone I am a newbie internet marketer and I wondered if anyone can help me out, I want to know how I can find out if my site/blogs are getting ranked in google for example at all and how I can tell without scrolling through all the pages. Also I don't really understand how blogging works and do you have to submit your blog to a search engine directory to get ranked. I know I am a way off getting to #1 but I want to learn how it all works so if anyone has any sites or articles they know of that will help me that would be great.

If you want to know if a page on your site is indexed, try typing this into google:

site:yoursite.com/name-of-blog-post

This isn't always 100% accurate but it's pretty close. You don't need to submit your site to any of the search engines. Google and the other major search engines love wordpress blogs and over time they will find you, just keep on blogging, you'll be fine.

Hi Vanessa - Another easy way you can identify what keywords you're ranking for within search engines is by installing Google Analytics: http://www.google.com/analytics/ The analytics program is free.

Then just look at the "Keywords" tab under the Organic Search Traffic Tab on the left side of Google Analytics. Any keywords you see on this report are some of the keywords you're ranking for and also capturing traffic through Google with.

Hi Vanessa,

You should be indexed in google already.
Did you as Tyrone suggested? That is type in

site:yoururl

If there is nothing there, you may have the wrong settings.

In your dashboard, go to settings>privacy.
Make sure you are asking Google to index your site.

On each of your pages and posts make sure you have clicked the index and not the "no index" option.

I would also recommend signing up for Google Webmaster Tools.
This is also the place to submit your sitemap to google. You should do this.
There are plug ins to help you do this.
Webmaster tools will tell you if your site has a problem in the eyes of search engines.

I have found that 2 things are needed when the Analytics, Google tools and sitemap is in order.

First one is the actual posts that must be as SEO friendly as you can make them. The paid plugin SEOpressor does the job 100% and is highly worth it. The big secret is that few does this well. In Keyword Elite II I can see how the SEO of the top ranking sites are.

Second of all you need to to create enough one way backlinks to rank.

Some keywords are harder to rank for than others. I use Keyword Elite II to tell me how hard it is and it has been pretty acurate so far.

Ad Google + as well as it blends your posts with the Google search results.

I do find that any new posts do get in the top blog section on Google pretty much instantly.

Since you have Google Analytics, that will tell you when the search engines are spidering your site so you will know when they have come by and visited your site and updated any changes as well as when you have first been indexed.

Also, a few other good tools that are free is Stat counter and GetClicky. Although they do a lot of the same as Google Analytics, their formats are different and you should try them all so you find what is right for you and which one you like better.

Traffic Travis is a free program that you can also use that provides you some really good information.
