Postby Annie Burdett on Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:12 am

Okay all, I am new at networking and extremely new to networking online and social media. How is finding thousands of "friends" or "leads" going to really help me build my business? I keep hearing that is works guaranteed but I don't want to find out it doesn't AFTER I spent my money and my time....please help! Any guidance is appreciated! Anyone else in the same boat?

Welcome home! Your question is great and amny are wondering how this will help your business. First, Network Marketing is a people's business and your local friends and relatives are not enough to make your business grow as you wish. Social Networking and Media is the best way today to reach and meet thousands of new friends and therefore create new relationships.

Networking online has many advantages that you can't miss if you do it correctly. You dont' spend a penny to create a huge network of online friends in social Networks like BetterNetworker, MySpace, Facebook and more. That is like having access to millions of potential customers and/or associates for FREE. The trick is that you must spend some time learning how to do it correctly so you don't end up spamming left and right.

Social Media is "COOL" now. Who knows what's next?

I've already signed up. I know this guys deliver. If you want to learn the whole social media thing to build your business then don't miss out on this.

To answer part of your question about how friend, followers will help you build your business: People prefer to do business with people that they Know, Like and Trust. Social Media is a great way to give people the opportunity to know, like and trust you.

One more thing on social media. It won't cost you any money but it is fun and addictive so be prepared to spend some time on it.

Hope to see you one those webinars.

Baby steps! And don't expect to much to soon. Do you have a myspace or twitter account? Do you have a landing page or web site? You are right in that it will take an investment of your time...only money if you want to spend it.

Let me also suggest this...if you are not able or are struggling to build your business offline, what makes you think you can do better online? Social networking should be additive to your already successful and growing business. Not necessary a replacement for a product/business opportunity that is not successful offline.

Step 1 - make sure you are on the right "horse" (i.e., business opportunity)
Step 2 - get started one baby step at a time starting with a web site or landing page
Step 3 - use squidoo or article publishing or myspace, etc. to start driving some FREE traffic to your page/site
Step 4 - learn, learn, learn more about other ideas like SEO or PPC, etc.
Step 5 - keeping learning and trying new things until you find the formula that works for you, your target audience, and your opportunity...then do a lot more of what is working and stop what isn't!

There is much landscape to cover here and this forum will help. But if you are not on the right "horse" to start with an online approach won't get you much farther than an offline approach will.

Good luck in your efforts.

I read all the posts here and there is definitely some good advice. Start out slow and don't feel you have to update all your sites everyday. Take time to read up on the friends you are gathering and build a real relationship with them through email, etc. It is addictive once you get rolling . . .soon you will see your list of friends growing by itself from people referring people referring get the idea.

Hello Ann,

Better Networker is a great place to learn and grow in your business journey. To build friendships and relationships it of course takes time. There are free ways to build relationships. One great way is on Twitter. It is a micro bloging platform. I started a few weeks ago and now I hvae 700 people following. I comment on the things they like and I let them know what I am doing.

Last night I had a training webinar to over 200 Marketers in my business so I commented that I was doing that training. The response was great. But I say that to say this... my wife got on my Twitter account and told all of my followers Merry Christmas from Michael's wife and she got more responses from that comment than I did announcing that I had over 200 people registered to attend my training webinar.

It is free and can build your network and business. Feel free to follow me to get started and other good people to follow are Perry Belcher and Mike Dillard. Perry has over 8000 people following him in just over 100 days.

If you need help feel free to message me on twitter or here, it is easy.

This is just one way out of many to get started in building friendships and building your network.

First of all, welcome to Betternetworker!

I hope you enjoy making connections around here. There are some great people to learn from, by reading in these forums and over at the instructor corner.

Making friends helps you because you can build up an idea of what is the real-deal and what is hype. A real friend will not promote their business or any other to you, but they will talk about what has worked for them and if they do have any solid advice to offer, it will be based on your needs and goals, and not their own.

My advice to you is not to jump into ANYTHING. No matter how good it seems in the moment. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Sit back, take your time, really ponder each choice you are about to make, and be thorough in your education as well as implementation of what you have learned.

It's all about taking one step at a time.

Best of luck to you! If you'd ever like to talk, have any questions about how I learned, (I'm rather new at all of this myself) feel free!

I am testing online marketing systems to see which produce the best lead generation results.

Postby William Nissen on Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:01 pm're right to be suspicious. There's alot of folks out there looking for leads. Basically, social networking is a great free way to create an audience...that's it. The goal isn't to make money by adding won't make a will have connections you didn't have before. What you do with those connections is where you make money. You can either burn bridges or be patient and build trust and respect. The initial connections may never do business with you, but they'll trust you and refer others to you. It really is the future of networking.

You can dialogue with me more about it if you like, I'd be glad to help...just contact me either here at or at

You may see ads for my companies, but I promise I won't sell you anything...just help

Take care
