Did I just get a BN spam? Not sure?

Postby Lee Riley on Wed Jan 07, 2009 10:23 am

I just got an e-mail from Jason as I'm sure all of you did as well. We have had many discussions on here about spam and although this was not a direct sales pitch, could we still consider this spam? I don't mind getting this kind of stuff, in fact I actually like it. It allows me to see what others are up to. I have not gone through it to see exactly what Ferny and Ray have put together, but I am assuming at some point, they will try to sell me a product. Based on their reputations, I'm sure the product is top notch and valuable, but isn't this really a form of spam as well?

I think this is an appropriate question, and certainly one I think should evoke conversation.

With that said, my feelings are quite strong on the matter.

It's Not Spam

The content is just too good. The content is much to valuable to be considered spam, and that is how I judge it. Ferny & Ray are at the top of their game. And they are showing us exactly what and how they applied their SEO techniques to turn their website into a 'google approved' MLM authority website. That's huge!

Yeah I got it as well Lee, I don't mind anything coming my way as thats how I find things out lol.
My personal thoughts to the seach engine placements etc is that they say you can get top 10 listings for your words but if even only 11 people use these so called top placement systems then at least one person will fail because you can only have 10 people in the top 10, so if 100 people used then thats a fail rate of 90% and if more used it then the fail rate only gets higher...Thats my thoughts lol

I didn't get that email or if I did I don't remember it. But when you signed up at BN you are in essence "Opting In" to receive communication from Better Networker. You already have a relationship with BN. So I think that might be pushing the limit of what equals spam. If you receive an email for someone you requested information from then that's not spam. If you don't like that email then you're free to opt-out but still, just because it's a promotion doesn't make it spam.

Ok, let's go with that. Doesn't accepting someone's friend request on Facebook or MySpace also imply permission to send them messages and promotions? Why do people get annoyed by this?

Sending something once in a while on social media sites is ok. But constantly shoving it down people's throats is another thing.

If you opt in then you opt in, and you have the option to opt out.

Just my 2 cents

I agree with Justin. I have a group on facebook and every few days or so I send a message to my members of over 600 and it is usually something of value, a resource, a video to help etc. I have had lots of great feedback about the value that I provide and a thankyou for not spamming everyone. I am member of alot of other groups on facebook and continually get spammed - sometimes every day!! I dont even bother reading them anymore - when you are in peoples face too much, they dont want to listen anymore.

When you join a group or newsletter, you must expect to receive some communication and tips and resources.

Eric, I love ya like a brother, my man, but I gotta disagree with that statement, as a general rule. Quality is a subjective measure, and what you find valuable will not be so valuable to someone else. Their information is right on target for you, so you are thrilled to get it.

The important point here, though, is that, as far as I can tell, everyone who got the email opted in to receive it. If it went out as a blanket email to EVERYONE who was a member of BN, that would be pretty shaky, regardless of how good the content is.

Oprius has a really good white paper on SPAM, that I think everyone should read to get a deeper understanding of this complex and sensitive subject.

I'm pretty sure the email came from "Jason Better."

Considering that SEO Networker is geared toward network marketers and BN is for network marketers, I'm having a hard time figuring out how this would be even close to spam.

Quality is a subjective measure, and what you find valuable will not be so valuable to someone else.

Are you telling me that if you could learn to organically get your desired site for your business on the first page of google you wouldn't be find that valuable to your business?

It seems that everyone here at BN would find that useful.

Good conversation, but given that when you sign up for BN you are essentially opting in to receive information from Jason Better and given the relevancy of the content as it pertains to network marketers and this is what BN is a community of, I just don't understand how it can be labled spam.

Can anyone who has posted in this forum explain how it IS spam?

And great topic for conversation, Lee!
