The Power Of The To-Do List - What's On Your To-Do List?

I can't believe I did without this for so many years.
My husband first introduced me to the power of the to-do list.
I had always read somewhere that writing down your goals
on a yearly basis was a good start to reach your goals,
and then re-evaluate them every year.

My husband always seemed to accomplish everything he set out
to do, me on the other hand was content in trying to remember what
needed to be done by sheer memory or jotting things down on
scrap pieces of paper that were never to be seen again.

So I decided it was time for change. I bought a nice small
notebook and every night wrote down what needed to be done the
next day. Wow, something about writing it down actually works!
I used this list for chores, phone calls, appointments, you name it.

Then I began using this concept for my Internet Marketing tasks.
I wrote down what I wanted to accomplish every day. Usually I chose
the same marketing tasks on a daily basis to keep it consistant.

1. 50 Craiglist ads
2. 50 Backpage ads
3. Send 100 emails
4. Write 5 articles
5. Call 10 people
6. Add 20 new contacts in social networks,
7. Learn a new marketing technique
and so on.

This worked! I knew EXACTLY where to begin every single day.
Before lists, I found myself checking emails, doing a couple of
things, then floundering and checking emails again, then checking
stats, basically wasting a lot of time. Now I just go down my list
and check things off. That is my favorite thing to do.
Once everything is all checked off, I make a new list of things
to accomplish the next day.

Put pen to paper and make your to-do list. What would
are the top 5 Internet marketing tasks on your to-do list?

All My Best,
Lori P.

Hey Lori!

You have asked people to do some hard work! Err...maybe something old fashioned too! No wonder why nobody replied to it!

Hi Lori

Writing down your life goals and reaffirming them every year might increase the chances that you achieve them. And it might not. The evidence is not conclusive.

Having said all of that, if it works for *you* then that is fantastic!

I'm sure it will work for many others, but probably not all others.

It doesn't work for me - at least, it doesn't work for me with the way my brain normally works. I don't keep a to-do list in the usual sense. I used to, and at the level of detail you gave as examples in your post.

So for those who perhaps would struggle with keeping a to-do list like this, consider the 'Get Things Done' approach by Dave Allen (www.davidco.com). It made all the difference for me!

Lori - thanks again for this thread - time/workload management, focus management, commitment management - call it what you will, it seems to figure in countless MLMers failing to get what they set out for...

To your success

The Great John "ACE" Reese mentions a tactic he calls the Brain Dump or Reboot Your Brain!!!

It is basicly instead holding everything in your head on what you have to do during

the day. You write everything down......Yes Everything.

Hey Lori,

I totally agree with you.
Power of the to do list is pretty amazing to me.

Usually I will write down, what needs to be done today
and I always come trough at least with 80% of the list.

to me- it is very powerful, in addition it eliminates the
mess in my head when I start of thinking of things to do.

Yes a To-Do List is very powerful. I like your idea of getting a small notebook. I had used a Planner but you cannot fit that much onto a Planner. :D

Once I recieved an email from Mike Dillard, telling me that the he had this software which was the reason where he is today. It was just the Notepad. He told me he writes 5 things before going to bed according to priority and ticks them off the next day when he accomplishes them. AMAZING :D

Yes, very true Daniel, although I learnt that from Andrew Carnegie and Napolean Hill. Paper and yes, now note pad.

I think he sent us to a video. Must be here on BN somewhere.

I don't personally create goals but I do create tasks. Then..........I outsource 95%.

Hopefully, by end of this year, I should have everyone in place, a team that does everything I use to do, which was the intention and focus when I started the business. The only thing left is for me to create ideas and lead business towards it vision.

Building partnerships with other businesses helps a great deal. Mastermind and develop partnerships with other business, make a great deal more money than being real busy doing a lot of tasks. But also, they too have their crowd, so we swop products and so on.

Makes life a lot easier. I think that's where future is going in the busness world. Competitors seeing each other as partnerships, passing businesses to each other.

Great to do List Lori.

If anyone hasn’t read “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy I highly recommend it.

Making a To-do list is not just important but a ‘must’ if you want to achieve your goals.
The more thought you invest in planning and setting priorities before you begin, the more important things you will do and the faster you will get them done once you get started.

Brian has an ABCDE method to making a list.

Every task or goal, you write down on a piece of paper, prioritizes it with an ABCD or E.

All ‘A’s are an absolute must to complete. If you do not complete the ‘A’ task you will suffer serious consequences.

All B’s are defined as you should do and only mild consequences if not complete. You should never do a ‘B’ task when an ‘A’ task in left undone.

‘C’ tasks are defined as something that would be nice to do for which there are no consequences at all.

‘D’ tasks are defined as something you can delegate to someone else. The rule is that you should delegate everything that someone else can do so that you can free up more time for the A tasks that only you can do.

‘E’ tasks are defined as something you can eliminate altogether, and it won’t make any real difference.

Bottom line is; it only takes a few minutes at night and then in the morning to write down what to do for day. I personally hate when I am at one of my daughters sporting events or whatever and think back about what I might have forgot to do that day.

Practice practice practice until it becomes a habit.
