Hey guys, I'm new to this network marketing stuff. I come from the affiliate marketing side of things, and am very unaccustomed to getting on the phone and talking to people.
What's your best advice on how to be more effective on the phone?

Hi,
Network marketing is not selling. So, remove this work from your vocabulary.
You have to inform your leads, not trying to sell.
bye

Thanks Hugo. Since "selling" is a dirty word. Perhaps I should change the title to:
What's your best tips for more effective Influencing?
If I ever had to hard selling anything I'd be a broke joke. Fortunately for me, I've done pretty well by just knowing my products inside out and providing good information. But recruiting is very different. It's not about product knowledge.
For that, I could just tell them to attend a call/presentation or visit the website. I need advice on how to more effectively get them motivated to take action and generate interest & desire in the first place.
Thanks again.

Honestly your affiliate marketing background gives you a leg up and I am sure you know most of the pieces.
1. drive traffic to an opt in page
2. build a list
3. create a relationship with said list
4. market to your list.
If your not great at copy writing I suggest getting John Carlton's stuff he is an amazing teacher.
There are many other great courses but I really like his. The only conversastion you should have with a prospect is the one where you sign them up.

Simply make sure whatever you're offering, you're offering it to a hungry crowd.
To the top,
Daegan
P.S. You don't have to do one on one calls if you don't want. Not a necessary component prior to the right person getting involved. After, yes of course, but before not really.

Re: What's your best tips for more effective selling?
Phone work is almost a requirement because of the level of commitment these folks will have to make. I can't see how anyone would drop $1500 to $10000 without talking to their sponsor.
I solid on the internet marketing side of things. It's the in-person & phone stuff that weirds me out.
Thanks guys. I suppose I could step back and take another look at my email copy and work on improving that. Actually, it's almost because of that, that I feel somewhat at a loss as to what to say to folks.
The emails communicate everything I want to say. Seems like a lot could be gained from a two-way conversation, I just don't know how to approach it. I'm a bit anti-social.
Hmmm. Anti-social in network marketing. Emphasis on networking. Hmmm.... bad combo?

Glen, practice calling leads and get a script in front of you. Start small time first, and know where you want to end up. When you do it many times, you soon forget that the other person is a stranger. I see it as fishing without the water, you never know who you'll get. Remember people are busy so you have to get their attention very quickly.

Re: What's your best tips for more effective selling?
Personally, Im not ashamed that this industry is about SALES.
What's wrong with selling something that they already need and want so bad?
So the key is to find the appropriate market (as previously said, a "hungry crowd") and provide the needs of that market. Present yourself, your product, or your business opportunity as the best solution to their wants and needs.
So don't feel guilty about the word "selling". It is the backbone of the economy. No business ever thrives without a sale. That's true for any business. Of course, someone said earlier that you need to provide good information to your prospects. That's part of the process. You need to establish trust by giving terrific value and information to your target crowd. You need to be genuinely interested in them before you can help them.
About calling people on the phone, there's nothing wrong about it, too. But you have to be aware of your PURPOSE and your POSITION during the call. If your purpose for calling is to pitch them about your MLM, without them previously indicating interest in it, you are in a chasing POSITION. Not good.
However, if you have a webpage that speaks about your business opportunity and a form that allows your prospects to leave their phone number...that's different. If they leave their phone number, that means they have some interest in whatever you're "selling"...in which case, you simply call them because they have already indicated interest. You are not chasing. You're helping them answer concerns they might have.
My favorite use of the phone is when a happy customer actually calls me to ask about the business. Whenever that happens, you don't need to sell. You just answer questions and point them to next logical step (the upsell, the backend, the monthly subscription, or whatever good stuff you have prepared especially for them).

Re: What's your best tips for more effective selling?
Well done gents. Good points.
You know? Perhaps my ego was telling me "You don't need a script. You're better than that." but I think I'm rethinking that position now. Feels awkward given my proficiency in other areas, but sometimes it's wise to get back to basics.
Thanks Popps.
Great feedback Verny!
Purpose & Positioning. It's easy to lose sight of that when I'm on the spot. I think it will help a lot to get a good front end offer that is cheap and focus on my energies on buyers. Like you said, when a happy customer calls, it's a very different type of call.
Thanks fellas. Keep the ideas coming.
