Do you think you have to be a 'product user' to sell the product or be a representative
for a particular company? I'm not referring to whether or not you believe in the products,
I'm only referring to whether or not you have to use the products.
Take heart health for instance. You may not personally suffer from any heart related issues
but you understand the population as a whole can benefit from product XYZ. You've done
your homework and feel confident that the products are top of the line based on testimonials
and the scientific research.
Your opinions please.

Do You Really Need to be a Product User?
Would it be okay if you never had to do another STINKIN' presentation
to someone who just didn't give a RIP?
Most people HATE working their warm market!
Are YOU ready for a CHANGE?

.
I'm sure you'll have plenty of people who say "no."
I on the other hand don't see how you can not be.
Your message will be 1000x more effective if you have a personal story of your own to share.
People are always talking about testimonials. But you don't need 100s of testimonies from "other people.
... why not create your own and share that one with everyone.
If you're product is so great and worthy of someone getting in business with you, then it should be a "no brainer" answer. Yes - be a product of your product.

How can you promote a product that you are not using? I agree with Richard on this one.
If you know of someone within your organization that is using a specific product for a condition that you are not suffering from and is getting results, I would advise the person that you are introducing your product to to get in touch with someone that is experiencing results.

I agree with the YES party!
Simply put it: If you sell let's say coffee... Then someone asks you "Does it taste good?" you of course would say yes. 2 Days after that same someone gets back to you and wants a refund saying "You told me it tastes good, but I beg to differ... this is no coffee at all... it tastes like milk tea!"
Now, if you only tasted the product once, you can still at least answer back about the taste.... but we should understand, when complaints come, that is just the tip of the iceberg. They will have more things to say other than the taste if you answer back. How will you explain yourself to a customer who have more memories from the experience of drinking your coffee when you yourself only drank it once?
So yeah, there are lots of reasons why you should be a product of your product.
Cheers,
Geoff

Re: Do You Really Need to be a Product User?
You should be a product of the product and I can easily explain this with a short story.
I was idly watching a woman strip ad copy (back in the old days when everything was cut, waxed and stripped in) onto a full page ad for a local, very large, very modern grocery store . I was asking her about the store and was shocked when her response was "I have no idea I never shop there". She went on to tell me she drives 30 miles away and shops in another community. Her reason was superficial.
She had NO idea, not one clue that the store who's ad she was pasting up paid her salary. There was no connecting for her that her shopping dollars would keep that store vibrant and healthy and in her community and more importantly - spending their advertising dollars with the newspaper who paid her salary.
I walked away. There is stupid and then there is stupid.

I am going to start the No Train...lol...(I already hear the drones of disagreement.)
But hear me out. Do you have to be a BMW driver to sell a bmw...or a Mercedes driver to sell a Mercedes. No. What if you are alergic to Acai...does that mean that you can't be a distributor for a company who sells acai product. ????
Yea...everyone wants a personal testimony as social proof of the quality of the product. But do you have to be a user...No..Should you be...yes. Cause if the product is the "best" you should be using it.
That is my $0.02....Enjoy

Can a vegetarian own a hamburger shop?
Can an MD visit a chiropractor?
Can a teetotaler own a saloon?
I like Paul's answer. Though personal testimony does carry more weight.
