I need help understanding blogging
I have a question about blogging. Recently I viewed the list of the top 50 network marketing blogs. I was very excited about the content that was being shared on each blog but I was confused about one little thing. As I was looking at each blog I noticed that there were limited comments on each post. Now it is confusing to me because my favorite blogs that have nothing to do with network marketing but are from good entrepreneurs always have people commenting on their post. Are comments from other people something that I should be worried about when I post on my blog or does it really matter?

Hi Brandon!
If you are getting traffic to your blog and have good content, the comments will come in time. It won't happen all at once but when it does, the comments add up to increased SEO. Search engines see an increase in content and relevance when your blog posts have many comments. This is due to key phrases being repeated as well as added in the comments.
So be sure that you use a moderation plugin like Akismet for Wordpress, so that you don't get spammed. There are all sorts of bizarre and undesirable comments you could end up with if you do not. Some are very sneaky with links, which Akismet catches (people will put links in characters like the period or a smiley).
Hope this helps!
Vicki

Brandon,
I checked out your blog. You're doing all the right things. The most recent post proposes a question, encouraging your readers to respond. Excellent!
If you're wondering why more people aren't responding to your blog, it could be that you are on blogger.com. It's a free service and they want anyone who comments on your blog to also be a member of one of their services. So, after someone has taken the time to write a reply, they have to confirm their google account and such. If they weren't already logged in, they can become discouraged and simply decide to trash their comment instead of continuing with the hassle of logging into an affiliate account.
When you have YOUR own blog, one you create, then readers will have more flexibility in commenting. When you take this step, reread Vicki's post. She offers good advice.
Overall, I'm with Charlene. People are seeking. That's why they are reading our blogs.

Blogging is a strange beast to tame Brandon.
Your audience can be very fickle and unresponsive at times.
At least that's how it may seem when you aren't getting comments.
I've been studying Gary Vaynerchuk a lot lately.
And something I came away with recently was this...
My point...
If you want comments - ask for them.
Like any other "landing page" or squeeze page use a Call To Action.
I've been testing this. At the end of each post I ask for comments. In big bold letters.
It doesn't always produce comments, but since I've used it I seem to be getting more comments.
No where near what I'd like to have. It's still pretty bleak honestly compared to some of the "super blogs" out there. But then again, even those that I read daily have plenty of posts with out a single comment.
My traffic isn't very high yet compared to those super sites either... just over 300 uniques a day.
So I'm expecting comments to increase as i post more frequently and get my traffic up.
Even still... Do keep in mind that a lot of people - I mean A LOT, cruise the web very fast.
They may never comment. It doesn't mean they aren't reading.
Hope that helps.

Whatever it is that you want, you have to grab it!
It will not be handed to you on a silver platter.

Re: I need help understanding blogging
The way that i view posting on blogs is a very essential concept that was shared in Magnetic Sponsoring. People like to associate with successful people, such as all the entourages that follow high profile people. If people view you as a "high" profile person, they will want to leave a commento just to be a part of your life, just to be a part of your group. That is it...
Provide people with content that makes them feel like they are a part of something special and they will provide you with comments.
Also, if you have a "commenter leaderboard" that tends to have a great reaction with you readers that entice them to leave more comments so that they will get recognized in your blog...it is publicity for you and for them.
Hope that helps..

Yes Brandon definitely need to get his own self hosted blog on wordpress.org because of the reasons That Tami stated. His blog post was nicely written and he tried to engage his readers so eventually he would start seeing some great comments. I think that the Akismet feature is one the greatest thing because it is very difficult for the spammers to get through.

Re: I need help understanding blogging
Sometimes you get comments, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get LOADS of them. My network marketing blog gets comments here and there but there is one certain post that has over 50 comments. The post is about the Trump Network and it was like I hit one out of the ball park on that one. It wasn't even that long of a post; it was just a well timed post and had the right combination of keywords in it. If you Google "donald trump network" that blog post comes up near the top (3rd place when I last checked). The first thing I did when I saw it was getting commented up, was put a link to my capture page at the bottom.
So bottom line, keep blogging and sometimes you just get a big hit. Get a few big hits and soon you'll have a following.

Hey Brandon,
I agree with Richard. If you want comments you will need to ask for them.
If you ask someone for their opinion, they'll give it to you. Especially if you're posting about something that you have a passion for or they are passionate about. If you are giving your target audience what they want to read and ASK them for their 2 cents, they'll be happy to throw it in.
Comments are one of the fastest ways to boost up your blogs search engine rankings so get as many as you can.
Be sure to respond to the ones you get as well. Engage your readers and build a relationship. People will post more often if they know they author responds.
We really should set up some sort of group to help each other comment and tweet each posts. Tweet mine and I'll tweet yours! That sort of thing.
