Are blogcasts good idea?

Postby Richard Belliveau on Wed Dec 09, 2009 8:53 am

Hello everyone. I do not have a lot of experience at all when it comes to blogs and things along those lines. I was wondering if a site like GO DADDY would be recommended to get a blogcast going to promote my business opportunity? As far as I can see - I can upload some podcasts, videos, audios, and write my blog and also get my domain attached and go from there? Is that pretty much the jist of it and is this a good way of keeping costs down and also a way to create some good traffic? I noticed they do not allow banners. Is this the norm for blogcasts?
Thanks in advance for any knowledge that might be heading my way and for the others that might have the same questions. Overall- are blogcasts complicated and are they worth the replacement of an actual website, etc? Thanks and have a great day!

There are two main keys to MLM:

1.) Promotion
2.) Follow Up

The internet is the single most powerful tool that you can use for both of those, so the answer is an emphatic YES, blogcasts are a good idea.

However, its all in how you use them. I wouldn't use them as recruitment platforms, but rather, use them to create VALUE for your hub.

The single greatest thing you can do for yourself with blogcasts is to give away valuable information and create a following of people who opt-in to your site. Then, you will have a very valuable list which you can email.

This works out well for MLM because of the this next important step. Host a teleseminar on a frequently asked question.

When you have a following of people using and profiting off of the content, the next step is to get them on a teleseminar. If you do it right, you can hundreds if not thousands of people who are EAGER to hear your pitch and possibly join your network ;).

As far as hosting goes, I would actually recommend a hostgator account. Godaddy gives you cheap domains, but the best hosting comes from hostgator or enom.

Thanks for the reply. So would you go with Host Gator as the hosting company and would you recommend their site builder as well to get a website or would you just stay with the blogcast? Funds are limited right now and I am just trying to figure out what would be the best way to get this going in the right direction. My goals are to build relationships and then guide them to the company website where they can sign up for free if they choose to - or to become a paying member. I will continue to study and look into different ideas and thanks for any help that is given. Have a great day!

Install WordPress, hosted at Hostgator. Never ever SiteBuilder or any HTML do-it-yourself sitebuilding software which hosting companies throw in for free. Stay away from Dreamweaver! You want to only use sofware which provides blogging and content management. ONLY use Godaddy for domain registration. Nothing more.

Hostgator and other webhosts provide Fantastico, a package with scripts, located at the bottom of Hostgator's cPanel. It will install WordPress with a few clicks of the mouse. But you will have to FTP your theme and extensions.

You can teach yourself how to do all this free online. You can find vids and step-by-step screen shots and how-tos. You will need to invest time, not money. Tons of free themes, extensions, etc. No matter where you host your site, make it a WordPress blog.

Some of us have been making websites for over a decade or more. WordPress has been around for about 4-5 years or so. Pls don't expect to build all this overnight. But focus on it and keep at it.

Add email newsletter services. Most peeps here seem to use Aweber (plus I think it's called GetResponse). But Constant Contact and Namaste Light provide better contact management, from my discussion with personnel at those companies. Most all have free trials.

Plus you absolutely need to learn and use SEO techniques. That means including relevant keywords in your posts (text, images/stills, vids), titles and backend. Most people do not write correctly for the net. They could get better Google results if they bothered to learn how to write for Google and readers. Instead they do PPC. Could save money by doing both if wanted.

There's also free tools to track and suggest keyword usage. Whatever rocks your boat! Again, there's tons of sites which discuss keyword usage, writing for the net, etc.

Subscribe to copyblogger.com, problogger.com and more. Read, watch, do. Spend time, not money.

Enjoy the ride.

I agree with a good chunk of what Jenny said, but I do ascribe to the philosophy of, "easiest path to the most amount of money with the least amount of work". That being said, we all have a budget to stay within.

By all means use Fantastico and avoid site builders. It takes 2 seconds to install Wordpress yourself once you get into your cPanel, and if you don't want or have the time to learn to mess with Wordpress yourself, leverage JV relationships!

I'm not afraid to say that I don't worry about doing the tech stuff... I'm a complete idiot when it comes to that stuff. But I'm willing to bet that like me, you know a guy, and you wouldn't mind giving him 10% of your profit to maintain and update your site. That just gives you more time to focus on relationships.

Most importantly (and Jenny hit the nail on the head), build your list. No matter what you do, the money is always in the list. Be it recruitment, sales, or as a means of diversifying your revenue streams, a list is practically priceless when you leverage it correctly.

If you have any other questions, just let me know!

Good question.

The best thing you can do is get yourself out there as much as you can.
I would recommend keeping the website as well as starting the blogcasts while just focusing on getting more traffic. Learn as much as you can about blogcasts and how they work and the better you make it and put it out there, the more value it will gain as an asset.

Also, I think Hostgator rocks! And I would use them as a host, use Fantastico to install wordpress in a few seconds and then get the "PodPress Plugin" for Wordpress. It will also allow you to do the same thing as GoDaddy's Blogcast BUT you will be able to use any of the 1000's Wordpress Themes and other plug-ins.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the good replies. I should have really simplified the questions that I do have as a lot of this is a little new to me. I do have some experience but not like the many on here and I would love to learn as much as I can and in order to do this I need to ask more presise questions so here we go:

1) Like I stated my funds are low right now and I wanted to know when I get my domain - can I get away with a blogcast site only and get the website later on?? Here is what I need to do to get my blog or site to where I want it:

A) I want to put a banner or several on the blogcast
B) I want to download a radio show on it or just have a link or many links on the site
C) I want to promote an affiliate site or 2.
D) I want to have a capture page or box to get names and e-mails to build my opt in list and have something to give them as well through an autoresponder.

2) What is the best way to optimize the site for SEO? ppc??

3) Will Google let you do adwords and send the clicks to a blogcast site?

I guess these are my main questions. I want to be able to interact with everyone and also have the links and do the PPC and have the opt in page to create leads for myself.

Sounds like Host Gator would be the server. I already seem to have downloaded Wordpress and have a sample little blog started there- http://thinkandattract.wordpress.com/

Does this look ok?

4) Can I get the domain name and send it to my wordpress blog? Is just a blog good enough for now instead of the blogcast or website? Will the blog do all the things I have mentioned?

I really appreciate any help and all I need is a kick in the right direction. All help is really appreciated! Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you all soon.

Make it a great day!
