From what I here around these forums is that you need a blog in order to be successful in this business. So that leaves me no choice but to have to make a blog websiteSo I was wondering if I should get a blog were I have to pay a web hosting company around 7 bucks a month or get a free blog from sites like blogger.com
From experience - I got a blogger but....if I was to start again, I'd get my own domain, wordpress.org, and get hosting company to host.
That's what I've done and even though blogger generates traffic, got clients from the blog, has done good, helped with crafting a skill, I would still say..
1. Pay for your own domain name.
2. Download wordpress and I mean, wordpress.org
3. Get it hosted.
It's an investment and an asset.
4. The difference also, is you have full control.
Blogger or wordpress.com, can't say to you now, "Oi, you can't put that word in there or banner on there! And you can't use the word "MLM". Because it's your blog. You own it.
Here's what happened when I did some changes that created an impact.
A) When my list saw the backend of my new site/blog I'm building last week - using a online conference meeting, they took me very seriously. It kicked butt.
They know I've been working on it for sometime and tailoring it around their needs.
The influence shot up and the opening my emails was more. Plus, just from that online meeting, companies started to hire me from my city.
So it does make a difference when you got your stuff together like a pro.
B) They see you took your business seriously and you're here to stay.
So again, if I were to choose from start before I started on blogger, I'd go for wordpress.org. Get a domain name, have it hosted.
Before you do that, do some research, plan it out and create a strategy. Don't just create. Tailor it around the needs of your targeted prospects. This alone takes skill too.

If you are serious about developing a blog for the long term you
absolutely want to have it hosted on your own domain.
Here's the most important reason:
When you control the hosting yourself, you control the blog and all of its content. If you set up a free blog and the platform you are using decides that they don't like the content of your blog for whatever reason...maybe they think it appears to be too spammy, then you may wake up one day after working hard and writing posts for a year to discover that your blog has been "removed". This has definitely happened to people before and I guarantee you those people wished they would have been hosting their own blog.

My main blogs are blogs that I host. However, I do use free blogging platforms as well.
If you don't want to go thru the hassle at this time to get a professional blog set up, just use the free sites and back up all your posts (copy and past them into a word doc) so that if the free blogging site does take down the blog, you have a copy of all your content. Some free blogging platforms will let you upload to your hosting.

To me the price of paying for a host is so minimal, a few dollars a month, it is best pay someone to host your blog. This way you own everything. Now with Fantastico program, it makes loading a Wordpress blog, themes and plugins a breeze.
I do have some free ones I use through Traffic Geyser, just to put video up and get backlinks to my blog.

If we're thinking about our blogs being our "nerve center," then the choice becomes obvious. You can't very well have a nerve center that is not on a domain that you own. At least you can't have one that is going to be very successful.
Not that hosted blogs don't have their use, they do. They can be used for SEO purposes and to get more of your content out in more places.
But your blog, your nerve center, has to be on your own domain, your own hosting. It all goes back to building YOUR brand, whatever that may be for you.
The benefits of hosting your own blog far outweigh any downside that I can see.

What's up Husam ...
It all comes down to where you are on your journey I think.
Personally I think Wordpress.com can be a great way to get your feet wet and learn the ropes of blogging on their platform (with no expense). Especially if money is tight.
However, it is best practice to own your own online real estate.
What does that mean?
Well think of it just like a mortgage from a bank on your house.
Would you rather own your home outright or be tied to a mortgage at the mercy of the bank?
When you buy a domain and setup your website of your own on your own hosting account it's similar to getting rid of the bank. You still have to abide by the rules of the hosting provider (kind like paying the property taxes - you just can't get away from it), but the bank can't take your home anymore.
You Own It!
Another way to look at using Wordpress.com is like trading on paper. When you're ready to throw down and actually make a real world deal and jump into the game with real money, you're going to need a funded trading account. Your own blog is that account and takes you to the next level ... it's not just a game any more. Now you're playing for real.
I would like to caveat by saying this however ...
The free platforms such as blogger, wordpress, etc. are excellent for SEO and developing additional points of contact that lead people back to your money sites. (your home)
So while I agree that your primary business should operate under the roof of a website that you fully control, I disagree that "free" platforms should never be used. They do have a place in a professional marketing blueprint and can be extremely effective AND profitable when implemented properly.

Good call Husam. I know when I started my blog, I thought of getting a free blog but I was recomended against it and I am so glad that I took their advice. The fact that my blog is totally in my control is great. There is no filtering and no one will take it down. So much better.

Hi Husam,
It can be a bit intimidating starting to blog if you have never done it before.
I can help you with some good quality training on how to do this. Before that, though...I invite you to take a look at my blog by clicking on my signature link below. I am building this as my nerve center with the guidance of Erica from MLMMVP - she has been a huge help!
If you're interested in finding out more, why not join the free training membership group while you're on my blog - you will see the link at the top right of the page?
Hope this helps.
Have an inspired day!
