I know this is a problem most of us face. We do the work and then people just quit! So my question is...
Once you have sponsored a person into the business, what is your strategy to keep them active in the business?
Ofcourse there will be some tire kickers and opportunity seekers that never do anything in any opportunity, but besides them, what strategies do you recommend to keep your business growing and duplicating?

I think you are right when you said that many people experience this problem. Like you said you will get tire kickers and the professional "opportunity seekers." So how do we deal with that?
I think the answer has two parts:
1) Find a way to weed out the tire-kickers. This will help tremendously. When marketing your opportunity (which we will talk about in a second) make it very clear that it isn't "get rich quick." It will take time and money just like any other business.
If you are marketing online, this can be done with the copy on your sales page. If you are marketing offline, this will have to be done using your print marketing and what you say when you are working with a prospect.
It may seem counter intuitive to say that "if you are just going to be lazy I don't want to work with you" because you are passing up some money, but in the long run, it will make your business stronger and make your life easier.
2) Work more on marketing yourself and not your opportunity. If you read a lot of the forums and posts around the community I am sure you have caught a common theme that we should brand ourselves and market ourselves instead of our opportunity. This is because those that seek opportunities are the ones who are typically the ones that will leave.
Instead you want people who are looking to start a business with a leader, someone they can look up to and learn the ropes from. And in order to attack those types of people into your business, you need to brand yourself and position yourself as a leader.
Then when the next best thing comes along (i.e. a new wonderful once in life time opportunity
) they will think "I am with a tremendous leader right now who helps me, I don't want to risk losing that." This will help them stay in your business.
This is not to say these 2 things will magically get rid of all the attrition in your business but it certainly will help minimize it. And as an added bonus, you can spend your time working with only serious business builders who really want to be successful. This will save you a lot of headaches.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have questions. I will be more than happy to try and help answer them.

Re: What strategies do you use so ppl stay in your biz longer?
Good question and a basic issue with those of us who are serious about their business. Here are the basics that I have learned in my last 4 yrs.:
1. It starts with a quality company, products or service and compensation plan.
2.You just don't sign up anybody. You must seperate the product user from the business builder This is one of the most crucial steps. You must sign up a person who can see the vision of the MLM ( multi-level-marketing) opportunity. How building a team of like-minded people below them is what funds their compensation. Any real good MLM company is going to cost. It is this cost that runs the whole system. Our plan and our company's compensation pays you back at the end of the second month, from there it is all profit . We encourage serious builders to fund at least 3 months to be on the safe side. A person who can't see this or whines about the expense, they are not serious business builders. My suggestion is move away from these people, they will absolutely kill your business. If they still want the product or service, by all means help them and sign them up, BUT put them sideways and not in your business structure.
3.You need weekly, coaching, mentoring, momentum building Tele-conference calls or webinars.
4.No crazy building schemes, keep it simple but effective! Have a proven simple model to build your compensation structure. We use a simple build by 3 structure. I guess you could call it 3Xinfinity. The object here is a system that is easy to manage. We only require you to bring in 3 people, total. And, then, help yours to do the same.
5. DUPLICATE! You do all the above, teach your team patience, and their pay checks will keep them in.

Re: What strategies do you use so ppl stay in your biz longer?
Those were all good responses, but I would like to add that if you develop a good friendship with the people you sponsor, they will definitely stick with you longer. I saw it in my network marketing business when I first started. When you're not working on your business, do something fun together. My sponsor and I would play basketball. Do anything that you would normally do with your friends from high school, so it always doesn't feel like work.
I saw that the people that developed genuine friendships with their downline would stay around even when they weren't making money, just because they enjoyed being around the people on the team.

Excellent points from everyone.
What I want to add isn't entirely dissimilar from Joe's contribution, it actually leads off from what he said:
Go for the soft sell. Treat them as you treat your friends and family: let THEM decide, don't push, don't close them. Sure, you'll end up with a smaller downline, but it will be a self-motivated downline.

Jessica,
I point everyone that joins my team in the right direction... I give them access to all the same training I went through... I also host 2 weekly webinars... one for my personal team that's a Q&A style so they can get any questions answered personally by me. and one that's open to the public that is more of the lecture style.
I make sure to let them know that I will not be chasing after them to make sure they work hard... but rather they follow what I teach and that they can get in touch with me in the various ways necessary... I also emphasize how imperative it is to get on the training calls regularly so they're surrounded by successful people.
That's about it. Give them the tools and training needed, but they have to take action themselves.

Re: What strategies do you use so ppl stay in your biz longer?
Simple, approach it like corporate businesses. Use a customer relationship management strategy (CRM).
1. identify and spend less time with tire kickers
2. Constantly help those who are hungry for success
3. help and motive those who seem to be in the middle of the pack. those who take action but not massively enough
By doing these three things you won't have issues trying to keep people in your biz. communicate with those who contribute and are of most value of your time. those who don't do anything after trying to motive them will only waste your time. I hope this helps.

Find a good company that pays their part timers. The quicker a new team member gets a check the better, that causes retention!! Paying your part timers is part of finding a 5 pillar company. You can get info on the 5 pillars from a good Mentor.
Ask me about my 2 minute story!

Re: What strategies do you use so ppl stay in your biz longer?
Some of the best advice on this subject....
1. If you have to work really hard to convince someone to join you in your business... you will almost always have to work really hard to try keep them engaged.... (Impossible for the long run)
- Point being... It is extremely important to recruit the RIGHT people dont push/pull/drag
2. Only Spend time with people that DESERVE your time not the People Who really NEED your time.
- The people who deserve your time are the ones who are willing to work...
- The People who NEED your time but don't deserve it will NEVER work!
3. Teach people or share with them How they CAN deserve your time....
- They will put their hand up and it will allow you to work with the right people...
**The Strategy is to Learn to work and Spend your Time with The Right People**
Many will not stay and there is nothing you can do about most of them.... It's just the way it is...
The Great Jim Rohn says....
... The birds will get some of them
....The sun will make some of them wilt
.... Some will get squeezed out by the thorns....
And the best advice is DONT CHASE THE BIRDS because it takes you out of the game...
... when someone leaves or someone doesn't perform like you thought they would...all you can say is .... Isn't That Interesting and move on!!
Best of Success,
Roger S.

Re: What strategies do you use so ppl stay in your biz longer?
Lead with the product and build a check before going after team building. People follow someone they perceive is the Leader. If you arent focusing on the services/products the company is offering and just going after a team...no one will be writing business and you need customers.
Have a system in place that everyone will follow, including you. Office hours, team call or communication, company conference calls, accountability and excitement.
Understand your compensation plan. If your company offers a fast start program and your new person doesnt take advantage of the opportunity move on. You can motivate someone else only yourself.
