Desperately in need for advise on new name …

Postby TerjeJ. Granum on Wed Aug 04, 2010 2:09 pm

Re-branding myself .. maybe ...

My name is Terje Granum. I'm Norwegian. And I have a Norwegian name. Nothing strange about that. But now I'm thinking of moving my MLM-business global. And I need to brand myself. Attraction marketing, you know.

I would like my own blog. On a domain that is identified with me and easy to remember. For my Norwegian readers "www.TerjeGranum.no" would be fine. But what should I call the .com blog?

My experience is that «Terje» might be a bit tricky ... At least in English ...

In my youth I was called «Turbo». Probably because I was everywhere ...

Maybe «www.TurboGranum.com»? Or does that imply a car-related blog? I wouldn't like that. I'm going to write about attraction marketing, affiliate marketing, network marketing ... and ... you get the idea.

So ...

What should I call myself?

Looking forward to your collective wisdom.

How 'bout Terje "The Norseman".
Then you could use all kinds of Viking stuff in your marketing.

Captain of the Viking ship Granum.
Boldly sailing out in search of fortune 'cross the seas of
network marketing.

Or something like that.

Hi,

This is your name you don't need to change it. For example, Me I'm French and I took my name for my blog. I didn't change it. Maybe, a name that unique and foreign can attract more leads that you think.

I like both Turbo and The Norseman.

I think you just have to start to build a brand for yourself as:

Terje "Turbo" Granum
Terje "The Norseman" Granum

My friend who sometimes posts here, has a very common English name: Diane Walker. There are thousands or tens of thousands of Diane Walkers on the internet. So she goes by:

Diane "mlmblonde" Walker

I was helping her check her stats the other day and something like 45 people a month look for her by her nickname "mlmblonde".

I don't mind the fact that turbo relates to cars. You could put that theme on your blog. You could have pictures of cars and talk about how you always liked to go fast even as a kid. Target people who want to grow their MLM business fast. That kind of thing.

As Dave suggested calling yourself the Norseman or the Viking or something could have a lot of branding potential as well.

If you gave a graphic designer the nickname "turbo" or "norseman" or "viking" the designer could easily come up with a lot of clever ideas to build upon your brand.

One question might be are there other network marketers out there using a similar brand name.

Turbo has several people already using that for their MLM brand. Big Al has Turbo MLM. There's a Turbo MLM Leads site and several others.

There isn't much for Viking or Norseman so maybe one of those would be better. You'd have more freedom to build your brand without confusion with similar brands.

Hope this helps!

Thanks!

I like the idea of being "The Norseman", "The Viking" or even "Hägar the Horrible" ... But I don't think I'll get the .com-domain names. Maybe "TerjeThe Viking" is free ...

But I'm still worried about Terje ... Its almost impossible to prononciate in english.

Can "Turbo" be used as a first name ... as in Turbo "The Viking" Granum?

Or would just "Terry" work better?

Just a thought, "TurboGram".

You could use your "About Me" section to explain how Terje Granum became "Turbo" Granum, and then "TurboGram".

Stateside, we are used to seeing things shortened, and "Gram" is a shortened version of "telegram".

So, "TurboGram".

Like I said, just thinking....
Have a GREAT day,

Thanks Dean. At least I'm sure my mum appriciates that advise. And given your Contribution Level your advises comes with a great deal of authority.

Me, myself, kind of started to like "TurboGranum.com - the Norsman TurboCharging Your MLM Business" ...

How does that sound?

I would keep your name. Although I am Maltese, I have an English name. My surname is Maltese. I do not have any problem with that. You do not have an extremely complicated name to pronounce anyway. If your surname resembled the name of the Icelandic volcano that caused the eruption...I would tell you here and now with other ideas haha. :D

Keep it up mate!

Thanks for your input, everybody ... I'm still open for doubt and constructive criticism.

BTW: Someone can wonder ... What is the fuzz about. What's in a name, anyway. Well, let you be inspired by this passage from "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Carrol:

"The name of the song is called 'Haddock's Eyes' [said the White Knight]".

"Oh, that's the name of the song, is it?" Alice said, trying to feel interested.

"No, you don't understand," the Knight said, looking a little vexed. "That's what the name is called. The name really is 'The Aged Aged Man'."

"Then I ought to have said 'That's what the song is called?'" Alice corrected herself.

"No, you oughtn't: that's quite another thing! The song is called 'Ways and Means': but that's only what it's called, you know!"

"Well, what is the song, then?" said Alice, who was by this time completely bewildered.

"I was coming to that," the Knight said. "The song really is 'A-sitting on a Gate': and the tune's my own invention."
