Thanks for the great article. I especially liked the idea of creating "mind maps" I will definitely have to try that.

One technique that I've learned recently is free form writing...of course this step comes after you've completed your fact finding step. Basically you just sit down in front of your computer or with a piece of paper and write down anything that pops in your head....even if it has nothing to do with your topic. You do this for a predetermine amount of time (i.e. 5 mins or 10 mins). You just write until it's time to stop. Then you walk away from it for a 24 hours or so. After a few hours you go back and put it into a format that is understandable...taking out the things that don't make sense. Lastly you format. This works really well for me.
