Are Events In Facebook Becoming the New Spam?
Wow I just looked at my profile and I have 15 invites to mostly opportunity meetings. Many of them are local some are calls. What gives, events are not meant to spam everyone no matter where they are and what they do. They will just become ineffective if over used.

Yes! All this social media stuff has really gotten out of hand! Personally, right now I don't use FB for business at all (unless some day that changes. I hardly even use it for private use, either!), nor do many of the 6 and 7 income earners I work closely with. Although there are a few I guess.....it's just not the norm. There are too many people in social media who claim they know what it takes to run a business, and a long time ago I came to the conclusion that there was no way that there were that many experts out there, even if they were "in the greatest opportunity ever". I certainly don't know how people find the time to keep up with FB, create events, invite people to events, etc.
With all the happenings and events we are all invited to, no wonder everyone is bombarded, confused, not focused etc.!
As I'm learning from Tom Challan and Dani Johnson, I totally believe in thoroughly pre-qualifying the person first. It may turn out that you may not even want to work with a person that you invite to an event, and what if they ended up coming? Questions, really finding out more about the person rather than letting them know what you're all about, pre-qualifying, and sorting are the best ways to prospect. Definitely not inviting everyone and everything to FB events!
Just another reason for network marketing to get a bad name! So many people don't know what they're doing, which is unfortunate, although it really isn't their fault if they're not getting the proper training.....

Tamara I hear you, its not the best place to be anymore you are right. I still do actually have many of my contacts there so I can't completely ignore it.
Its really good to learn from leaders like the afore mentioned. I also totally agree with you on interviewing someone to find out if they have the right stuff for your business. I agree events are not a good way, it lets you blast it to everyone, which is definitely not qualifying anyone.
It is up to us to educate people, some will learn others won't. I made a comment on main feed just now and all he did was spam me back, (I didn't give him a link). Those who will not learn will not be here in a year. It takes a proper amount of training and a willingness also to apply and grow!

You are right on, Lynda! I understand where you're coming from, I'm in the same position. Too funny about the last part of the guy spamming you on the last part of your paragraph. Thank you for sharing....

Adding me to a group!
That's my biggest pet peeve on Facebook.
No invite, just a straight up add, then I get a whole bunch of spam messages...
Yes the social networker sites are extremely powerful,
but so many people don't actually use them properly.

My favorite is that stupid Michael Dlouhy ebook. I got 2 PMs today about that stupid thing.
And the best part is everyone uses EXACTLY THE SAME text:
here it is.. I love it...

Hi Robert, Thank you for requesting my friendship here on Facebook and thought I'd send you a quick message to say hello.
What I do here on Facebook is help other Network Marketers become successful no matter what company they are working with. And I do it for free.
I'm not out to pitch you because neither one of us are prospects for one another. I just want to pay it forward and help, if help is needed.
Would it be OK if I shared a free eBook with you that I found? You see, I found this book that explains why people do the things they do and if you deal with people in your business; you will probably enjoy the explanation in this book.
There is no cost to get the eBook or any of our training. So if you're spending money to learn how to Network or how to Market, my biggest advice to you is to stop, and put your wallet in the freezer.
You can get the same and better training for free.
If you would like me to send you the link to the eBook, just let me know. I would also be honored if you wanted to become friends.

Re: Are Events In Facebook Becoming the New Spam?
I can't stand the events spam method. It drives me nuts, I get at least 2 or 3 per day. The groups thing, forget about it, it's the worst, I quickly remove myself. This one person i connected with on facebook added me to a group without even asking. We chatted a few times online and he would drop hints about his business trying to get me engaged, however i didn't ask any questions because I knew exactly what he was trying to do. So, one day, soon after we spoke one morning online, I see that he added me to one of his lame mlm groups and right away i getting messages from the group. I mean we just talked, why not ask me first while talking to me rather than being shady and adding me. IT's just a nasty technique and anyone who does this is a Spammer and contributing to the negativity surrounding social media.
