We See Right Through You!
Do you know what's hilarious? Newbies who come onto betternetworker (or any type of forum) and submit long, article style, posts on the MLM forum. They post this long articles about how to recruit reps or how to become a successful entrepreneur, meanwhile we've heard everything they've had to say before. People, this is a community forum, a social forum. When you post long ass articles like that, when nobody even requested that kind of help, you kind of look ridiculous. You trying to make yourself look like an expert, because that's what you were taught, however here on BN, you look stupid. This is how I think of Social Media..people are all here communicating with others, having conversations, providing help when "asked" for it. All of a sudden this person comes in and quiets the room. He would like to introduce himself. After his introduction he starts talking about some topic in which nobody in the room has any interest, talking to people about the basics of MLM when the basics are fully understood. People are going to think this guy is crazy. Or to put it another way, it's like trying to teach Donald Trump the ins and outs of real estate. All I'm saying is that don't underestimate us here on Better Networker. BN is a great place to develop relationships and possibly catch some leads however most of us here are experienced and have seen through the so called experts. Treat us with respect, we'll treat you with respect. You should be asking questions or better yet, answering questions. 90% give, 10% take.

Hey Sabastian, I once was one of those who was new. While yes maybe not wise to pose as an expert. What I believe has to be done here is some real mentorship. Are we so busy in our business that we can't help them become the expert in what they want to do? this person that you refer to is just trying to make it in this very competitive world. They don't know that this is where all the real experts are. But let me ask you something, how would you act if you knew nothing today?
I for one am willing to help anyone. Now the only ones I don't have any patience for are the ones that are clearly spamming our site and know it by offering us their best bargains. Those we can be a bit mean with. But new people need to be helped.
And yes it is definitely about relationships. That is an art that must be taught and learned. Will you teach me I want to learn?

Great points lynda. We all have to start somewhere. I liked the question you posed "how would you act if you knew nothing today?" Very insightful. You got me thinking. During my rant about newbies, I didn't see the other side of the coin. Rather than hating on what they were doing, maybe a simple approach providing some redirection would have served the community better. Thanks for the response.

Re: We See Right Through You!
I agree...Great point. Granted, I have often posted long responses, and often still do (like today for instance)
. In most forums, the objective is to learn, not to be "sold". If someone posts a long "article", for the sole purpose of selling something, you can't miss it, nor can you hide it.
If someone is legitimately putting good info on the plate, type away as long as it is in direct relationship to the topic at hand...
Thanks for the thoughts!

Oh absolutely we can use as much space as we need to complete our thoughts!

Re: We See Right Through You!
Now here is what a forum is for. A good, possibly great discussion.
I don't agree that we should be tolerant with newbies who come on here or anywhere else for that matter repeating the same stuff they have heard, have no idea what it really means or if it even works and adopts the "look at me I'm a great leader" swagger.
If you are a newbie don't pretend you are anything else. Fake it till you make it scenario.
Example: This guy has never put his foot in a body of water anywhere but he's read a book, attended a couple of classes, listened to a couple of conference calls and here he shows up on the beach with a brand new "instructor" T-shirt, a whistle and the "look at me, I'm a great leader" swagger.
Never swam a stroke in his life but he's here to teach everyone how to swim.
Fake, phoney, liar and he's willing to play with your life. And it's absolutely see through BS.
Now take that same guy. Same scenario. Never swam before (never been a business owner), has listened to some webinars and read a book or two but doesn't have a clue if he's picking up information from Darth Vadar or Obi One.
Comes to this same beach without the attitude, with an open mind and chooses to do one of two things: Shut up and learn OR jump in with questions, ask for opinions, question others opinions, ask for justification of logic that doesn't make logical sense. Suggest things but then be willing to say I tried this, it didn't work, what am I doing wrong? Someone suggested I do this, what are the pros and cons if I do it?
Be you ! Be stupid (because we all are when we start). Don't be afraid to show it. THINK before you post. Don't ask questions that the answer can be found in the top spot on Google. Use some initiative yourself. If you get some sound advice from someone who's been there, done that, don't pat them on the head, say thanks and have no intention of implementing what you learned. What did you ask the question for if you didn't want a serious answer.
You will run into Darth Vadar and not realize it. Spread his message across the galaxy thinking you are helping others but one day you are going to run into Luke Skywalker and then you really will feel like an idiot. And probably it's going to be in front of a much bigger crowd than when you first showed up on a forum as a newbie and admitted it.
Balls in your court now !

Re: We See Right Through You!
The nice thing about forums, is that people often ask questions to learn. But sometimes people use it to vent, or gripe, or sell their stuff. The important thing is that you keep direct with the people who are abusing for personal gain. Sometimes a thread gets going where people start taking pot-shots at people who are trying to help...I haven't seen this in this forum yet, I hope, and have always been met with good people with positive comments and feedback. Let's do our part to keep this community a positive atmosphere, so people feel comfortable sharing and learning.
Just a suggestion before I hit the sack...Sometimes negativity can be a hell of a drug to get off of...

Thanks Aaron I so agree with you on that. This forum is not at all for selling us or our wares. It goes without saying we are all business people with a product and a business.
I know I have learned a lot already just by participating!
