You believe in yourself and shrug the bombardment of negativity surrounding you.

You clicked to read this for a reason.
My guess is because deep down inside you're sick of all the negative news and drama.
Deep down in your core, your heart, your mind and your soul, you are looking for the truth; a better way.

You want to be loved and accepted.
You want to be successful and happy.
You want to live a purpose filled, fulfilling life.
You want to know that your time here counted for something.
And you want to be part of something meaningful.

You see, there is a war being waged - a war against your mind.
And some would have you believe that the only way to succeed is by joining the herd and playing off people's emotions by using negative messages to scare people into taking action. That only way to get people's attention is to foster fear and pain of loss.

But what have you really accomplished by doing that?
Have you really helped anyone or simply sold them something? Go for the conversion.

Have you truly helped them find a solution to their problem
OR just set them up for repeat purchases.

Do YOU really truly feel fulfilled by fueling fear
and inciting negative thoughts in people's psychology?

People do respond to fear and loss and drama and negative news.
CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc., may draw an audience with fear and negativity.
But is that the audience you want to draw into your business and life?
Do YOU really aspire to be part of the machine perpetuating it?

What kind of life is that creating? Are you truly happy?
Is that the legacy you want to pass on?

There's a great line from the film Gladiator ...
"What you do in this life echoes in eternity."

• How do you want people to remember you?
• How do you want people to speak of you when they mention your name?

Don't be the "Me Too" marketer that feeds on negativity.
It takes authenticity and courage to be creative, go against the norm
and bring something different to the marketplace.

BE ... Inspiring
BE ... Empowering
BE ... Encouraging
BE ... Passionate
BE ... Positive
BE ... Purposeful
BE ... Fulfilling
But most of all, above all else, Love people.
Truly strive to better your fellow man.

I attended a funeral the other day. A lady at church who had led a full life. Died in her 80s. Hundreds were there to celebrate her life and stories abounded of her charity and genuine care for others.

A few days later I heard a story about her in her last days. She was home bound but she called one of the leaders and said she wasn't able to get out, but if he'd give her a list of people to call she'd spend some time on the phone trying to cheer them up. This call was made just days before she passed.

As we scramble to "brand ourselves" and attract people who can help us reach our goals it is difficult to balance the desire to be a servant and at the same time have the faith that you'll be able to put food on the table (figuratively or literally, depending on your situation) without selling something.

I'd like to be remembered as someone who served others. I know I have a long way to go.

Today I felt compelled to put this in the forum simply to combat the negativity I found this morning.

I would agree there is much too much negativity in the world.

I used to strongly believe that it was my duty as a citizen to keep fully informed by listening to the news. I was an NPR addict. Then I got so weary of hearing it all. I didn't realize how debilitating it was until I stopped innudating my life with it. I try my best to avoid people or at least their hot topics that tend to spew negativity.

Now I have RSS feeds for the things I am interested in - without all the negativity. I do count on others to tell me of breaking news and items that I may want to contact my congressperson about.

I strive, like Tom, to take it a step further and to be a source of kindness out there in the world. That is what I tell my kids, "The most important thing in life is to be kind and loving."

Best wishes to all of us in achieving that ideal.

The great thing about the world we live in today Betsy is that
WE truly can control the flow and intake of information we receive.

There are many external elements that can swing our mood, change our state of mind,
influence our thoughts, opinions, beliefs and affect the way we feel about ourselves.

The "Self Help" crowd says it isn't true.
That external forces are not the problem, rather, the reality is we allow
it to influence us and we hold the power within to put a stop to it.

I think this is mostly true. But it takes practice.
Being "present" and aware of what we are thinking at all times.
Controlling our emotions. Controlling the influences around us.
But that's a lot of control for one person to take on.

I think the key is being aware of ourselves, being intentional in our influences,
being mindful of the company we keep and when we find ourselves in a situation
where a negative situation triggers an unwanted result, that we have cultivated a "practice"
of repositioning our focus to get our footing as quickly as possible.

Making a deliberate choice to cut negative influences out of that practice is a major
part to the equation. Not being naive - but being invested in our well being.

As entrepreneurs and marketers, if we can bring that environment to the marketplace
and cultivate a community around the mindset, then we can heal many of this industries problems.

Hey you amazing man and you did flaunt the rules ! Over the last couple of weeks I've had to walk in the "real" world of negativity. I spent more time with local people, some who were there to help me, others just to catch up on the news of the biggest event this area had seen for a long time, lots who were just curiosity seekers. It's amazing how most of their lives were mindless, repetitious and mundane.

Coming back online, coming back to my network marketing partners and team was a breath of fresh air. A welcome release from the mediocrity of most people's lives.

I have pondered how to tell people, all of you who relate to Richard's type of message, how much I appreciate you, all of you, for your attitude, your willingness to change your lives and your positive influence on others!

And Richard, you are definitely at the top of the heap ! Thanks.

love this it is very encouraging. The whole world is about fear and pain not about joy and giving. Somehow even in network marketing the prevailing theme is to get what you can get. You don't really win when you do that. You might get a sale, but you didn't make a friend. So thanks for posting this, i hope a lot of people read it and get hope for themselves!

Hey Richard,

Thanks for posting this! Nothing turns me off more than negative people and gossip, and I think as an eternal optimist I just can't stand being exposed to negativity for more than a minute. I Really dislike fear based marketing, about as much as spam! I have sometimes kept my distance from people and places in which I have observed too much negativity, there's just no time for it, life is too short.

Not to mention, we can do so much more with that list of 'Be's you gave.. Inspiring and helping others to grow, and continue on our journey striving to be a positive influence will certainly go farther than playing upon the fears of others.

Thank you Richard, you are spot on as usual. And you brought me back to posting on a forum that I've been avoiding for a while now for the very reasons you mention. I control my surroundings in order to control my attitude. But posting on your thread- now that makes me very happy and brings an instant smile to my face!

Joyce it is good know you're back in the saddle.
I know what you mean about playing "in reality" and how coming back to "all of this."
Seems it would make a good goal to strive for making our "real world" more like the virtual one we play in online. Surrounding ourselves with better influences and associating with more positive people.

"You Don't Really Win." That's exactly it.
Taking the negative approach may garner some attention, some sales, etc.
But it's short lived - there's no longevity in it and ultimately you're "campaign" is forgotten and disappears into the abyss. Where in contrast, doing something important, leaving a positive mark on society is a long lasting legacy which will echo on in generations to come.

I agree, the negative tactics are barely tolerable anymore.
It's gotten to the point I rarely ever pick up a news paper or watch any kind of news.
What's funny is that if something really truly important is going on, we'll hear about it.
People make a big deal about "breaking news" and gravitate towards the drama of it all.
If it's truly important, it will still be important (in most cases) when you get around to hearing it.

WE must take back this community and revive it to a positive place.
WE have the power to run the negativity out of town.
SPAM ain't that powerful - I know, I've put plenty of 30.06 rounds through more a few cans!
That stuff explodes under pressure

I read that cute kitten videos may go viral but negativity spreads fast.
It's funny because this "positive" post seems to be faring pretty well.
It hasn't gone viral yet, but I hope it does. I hope people will join in spreading the message.
The message that we do not have to spread more fear and despair.

Aren't we supposed to be a beacon of light?
An industry that provides a solution to all that fear and desperation in people's lives?
Aren't we supposed to represent ... a Better way?
Be a Better Networker - share a positive message in your marketing!
