Giving the Auto-Dialer to A Newbie Like Giving Poison Candy!

Postby Lynda Cromar on Thu Jun 02, 2011 3:33 pm

Why did I say that? Its a very enticing technology. It promises huge returns for little or no effort. It promises that they will never have to pick up the phone after they create their message. I don't get as many of these anymore, and the reason why is they are getting discouraged by how many will hang up!

Here is the problem:
They don't know how to use it properly! (creating hype no-value pitches on messages)
They have not even learned any of the proper people skills
They have not learned any marketing skills

I have no problem with any tool used properly, but when its put into someone's hands but they haven't been taught how to use it, well my title tells you what I think. Would you just feed someone poison? Of course not. So its not about a one time sale of this or any other tool. Its about helping them use it properly!

What do you think?

And THAT'S why Lynda Cromar is where she is today. LOL You are SO right Lynda, (kinda like saturing the walls with the same post lol). However, I think that with the right training, that comes from a great mentor, if a "newbie" is comfortable with the auto-dialer, I'd let them test the waters. But every situation is different, maybe some would do well, maybe some wouldn't. I had no idea how my first blog would be received until I wrote it. Not quite the same as the auto-dialer, I know, but the idea is the same. At some point the have to get their feet wet. But I wouldn't send them out without the training wheels right out of the gate.

Interesting concept. I would start them at something to teach them some people skills first. Actually blogging is a very good first place to start along with maybe Facebook.

The other side of the philosophy of contacting cold leads, how ever you generate them, is, it is an excellent way to get some training done where the results aren't going to be stellar anyways.

If you've got leads that are coming in from whatever source you are using it is much more costly to make mistakes on those people. They may be your next Diamond distributor and here you are stumbling through learning how to make a good first impression!!

Learn where it doesn't matter is my advice and is it scary to some? You bet it is, but the ones that attempt something that frightens them, have become the rising stars. Awesome stuff.

As always excellent points Joyce! I agree if you are going to learn the skill of talking to people learn on people that might be a little more forgiving as well. I know a lot of people hate talking to friends and family but if you are going to practice a new skill they are going to be more caring than a stranger!

Whatever method of advertising anyone is going to use for lead-generation there is either the cost out of pocket or the cost out of experience or in some cases both. I sure know I made a bunch of huge mistakes, buying leads because of lack of skill at the time!

You said it correctly with the right training and the right skills this tool will work.
Find a system that works for you and as you train and get skilled at doing it, then can you duplicate the system and put it on an auto-dialer.
Putting an auto dialer on to a system that you have not tried out for yourself would only frustrate you and cause you to abandon the whole idea in the first place.
Get the training. Learn the skill of communication. Find that product to promote. Then duplicate it by adding the auto dialer.

Ironic how shortcuts (autodialer) in our industry don't work sometimes. Best take the long cuts (phone yourself) and get the job done for sure.

I want to make it clear that I am not ranting against auto-dialers I don't personally like them, but we have to realize they are a tool just like all of the other methods of advertising. There are good, and bad ways to use any tool. And as has been said here they all require proper training.

Its either you have one or you don't. I don't believe you can effectively close sales using an autodialer but you can sure generate leads and heck, everything bothers some one at somepoint, whether its cold-calls, flyers on windshields, junkmail, autodialers, dropcards, craigslist ads, forum links like mine  . I think its here to stay. Just simply promote a voicemail number instead and be done with it.

Thanks Art good point. Its a good tool, but it does take some training, its not something to throw at them without that. If you read what Joyce wrote earlier she made good points about that. Because its attractive and they think they don't have to respond to people they get the false impression that its easier than learning the skills, just sayin...
