Mobile Mania... Is It Real?

Postby Richard Bravo on Wed Sep 14, 2011 11:00 am

.

OK so Im sure we've all heard that mobile marketing is the rage right?
Let's see if we can get some actual numbers on the topic.

Image Please answer these questions:
1. As a consumer, do you find receiving advertising on your mobile device/cell phone useful?
2. How many purchases have you made as a direct result of a mobile ad (online or offline)?
3. Do you scan QR codes? If so, do you respond/take action on the promotions?
4. Which type of offer do you respond to more:
a) an online purchase either direct from your phone or from a computer at a later time?
b) an offline purchase such as a discount at a restaurant, local business, etc?

The information here will benefit the entire community immensely.
So lets keep this topic tightly focused by just answering the exact questions.
As marketers we're often biased, so be sure to put your consumer hat on when you answer.

Richard,

I find receiving advertising on my cell phone to be a real pain in my eye. No, it is not useful.

I have made zero purchases as a direct result of a mobile ad. (If I understand correctly that a mobile ad is one that you receive on your cell phone?)

I have no idea what a QR code is.

I respond more to offline purchases from offers that come in my e-mail, usually there is a coupon to print out.

Andrea and Lynda...
Thank you very much for your responses.

As a consumer my answer to all the questions is no/none.
I live in a rural resort area and the local business scene is not
heavy into mobile marketing. At least not that Ive noticed.

My answer is no/none to all.
I don't like mobile marketing, it is very distracting and usually people don't have your permission to just send you offers.
It is irritating to opt out of receiving future offers. To me it is a form of spamming, since they don't have my permission to contact me with offers.

1. As a consumer, do you find receiving advertising on your mobile device/cell phone useful?
No... totally distracting and unhelpful.
2. How many purchases have you made as a direct result of a mobile ad (online or offline)?
0
3. Do you scan QR codes? If so, do you respond/take action on the promotions?
No. Takes too much time. Usually I'm walking by, and to do the whole scan thing isn't worth it to me. Maybe it's catchy for some?
4. Which type of offer do you respond to more:
a) an online purchase either direct from your phone or from a computer at a later time?
b) an offline purchase such as a discount at a restaurant, local business, etc?
B.

I'm a very mobile, internet person... but I don't want to hit ads EVER on my mobile. I avoid them at all costs.

I have no time for coupon stuff. I pay full price and have no time for all the coupon stuff that goes with selling me. My time is valuable. If I want it I will do research on the Internet (not with a phone) and buy it. But my kids do research on the phone. But they do not buy anything. But that could change, they use their phone for everything.
