I love technology as well as anyone, but how far can you take it? Now we have automation this and automation that! Where do you draw the line?
E-mail: Answer this for yourself: Do you prefer to let the e-mail service answer back (vacation response) or do you respond personally?
Phone: do you prefer to let a service or your voicemail pickit up - or do you answer
Any other way that you like to communicate?
This is your business, how responsive you are could make the difference between success and failure. I would really like to know, it seems there are many that believe the internet means you never have to talk live with someone.

Re: How Well Do You Communicate??
Coming from a offline sales position I developed a love hate position on phone communications. You love when you can make a quick sale on the phone, however most of the time your spending hours on end just trying make contact with customers. I'd much rather use other resources available via the internet to communicate. That being said thou, I haven't seen a better way, (yet) that will close a sale more effectively than with a personnel connection.
For now a balancing act between automation and a personnel connection remains to be the best practice.

Re: How Well Do You Communicate??
Here is something I've just begun doing with my theater company and on facebook.
If someone joins my email list, I let the auto responder send a message. But then I will personally send an email with a reference to today's date or something exciting in the news so that they know it's a current message. I can do this now because I don't have hundreds or thousands joining each day.
Something new I just started testing a couple of days ago is including a link to a youtube video that I have made specifically for that person. I introduce myself, mention them by name and thank them for joining, reenforce their reason for joining (benefits) and if they have any questions to please contact me.
I will play with this idea. Perhaps giving them a link to a special report or whatever that I did not mention in the website.
With facebook, instead of just accepting a friend request I will post a thank you video on the persons wall and acknowledge some commonality that I discovered on their website or perhaps they mentioned in their friend request.
I try to do the same if someone accepts my friend request.
Not to many people are doing this. I think it could help anyone stand out. It's easy to do if you have a webcam.

Re: How Well Do You Communicate??
How well do you communicate is a very good topic, Lynda.
How we communicate is very important too.
Finding your key target market is what we are looking for. Is your target market looking for you. How do they communicate to you. Is anybody listening?
I found that some target market do not use the internet, facebook, twitter or any online systems.
That means that if my main target market is offline, I would have to meet them there.
That means going back to ground zero and talking to more people every day and finding out what they want and how can I communicate with them.
From that experience, I could go onine and find more people looking for the same thing.
I am finding out that a lot of young people do not use the internet outside of their jobs. I guess that if you work on a computer all day, you don't want to see it at night.
How well do we communicate is very important because when someone is looking for you, you will be ready for them to achieve their goals.

Re: How Well Do You Communicate??
I really think it's best to have both. Give a few autoresponder emails, but also make sure that if they're leaving their phone and/or skype, call them. No one is purchasing your products until they first purchase YOU. Especially if you are starting out, direct marketing (phone & face to face) is a must. You will fail, 99% of the time, if you think you can start out without direct marketing.

Re: How Well Do You Communicate??
I think that having to call every prospect can be very time consuming. So I'd rather have my tools do the swift and sort work and I follow up personally with the prospect who is serious. By then I should have had a chance to connect with them on Facebook for example which on then makes it easier to be talking on the phone to them.

Sometimes, the phone number they gave is either wrong or nobody picking up. That where I just send them an email to see if they pick up and let the system to do the sorting for me.
