Do You Have a Mentor?

Postby Jocelyn Jones on Wed Nov 16, 2011 4:58 pm

Okay, this question may already be out there, but with over 8000 topics, will probably take me a while to find it. So I thought I would ask it again. Do you have a Mentor? If you do, what do you like best about them? What qualities were you looking for in one? If you don't, what qualities are you looking for in a mentor?

MLM Experience , marketing knowledge , skillset and most imp of all , superior leadership skills..That is why I took the pain to do an extensive search for my up line even though I had discovered the business I would join few months earlier..

Very Cool Adil, so from what I read, it looks like you sought out a Mentor and were looking for someone with superior leadership skills so that they could show you the way? Is that correct?

Hi,

This is a great question!

I think a mentor can really provide us with motivation. Something, it really hard to get motivated by yourself. A mentor can really give you the push you need to go over the obstacles that you met.

Knowledge, skills and experience related to MLM are the top 3 things you should look for in a mentor. It's like you can't be a teacher if you don't know what to teach. Agree?

Aside from the basics, you would want your mentor to be a great motivator. A little push would be great to help you succeed.

Just a thought.

Jocelyn,

There are mentors and gurus in their field with whom we may have no personal contact, the Tony Robbins, John Maxwells, Jack Canfields, etc., etc. of the world. We've read their stuff and call them a mentor. They are wise and guide and direct from afar.

I've had several personal mentors in my time but not always related to the business I was in then.

The qualities I look for are in a personal mentor are:
1. Someone who is heart centered, in other words, they come from their heart rather than just their head.
2. Someone who is worldly, spiritual and transformed. By transformed I mean open, innovative, forward thinking and able to see things from another perspective.
3. Someone who is a stand for what's best for me.
4. Someone who is count-on-able, someone I know will be there to coach me along when needed, someone who will hold my feet firmly to the fire when needed, but with love.

I am not with a mentor right now as I have a business coach who acts a both. My coach charges a lot of money for the value I get from her coaching and as an incentive to have me to pay attention... and it works!

Hey Rick,

Thanks for sharing! Those are great qualities, and that's awesome that your coach acts as both! 2 for the Price of 1! :)

Mentors are pretty much paramount in any MLM or any business. In fact, mentors are really supposed to be the reason why you join an MLM (The only other reason would be the Systems).

I like to have a mentor for everything I want to excel in. If you want to become better at something, it's always crucial to have someone better than you to guide you at it.

Here are the key reasons for what I look for in a mentor:

*Their skill set. What can they teach me? What are their experiences and what can I learn from them? What do they have/know that the others don't? What are their qualities and how can they help me succeed? How can the help me avoid the pitfalls of others who have struggled?

*Their tools. What are they using that they can give me access to? What are the cutting edge systems that they are utilizing in order to leverage their time? What strategies are they employing to build their businesses?

*Their network. This is a huge one for me. One of the mentors I decided to partner with attracted me specifically because they knew all these other key people in different industries. This person was in a mastermind of some of the biggest contacts in marketing, property, shares, and other businesses in the local community which gave me a huge edge and eventually became my contacts and friends too. Needless to say, you also get contacts who are not necessarily in the same business.

So there you have it. Having a mentor is PARAMOUNT to your success if you want to reach your goals faster than going it alone.

My Mentors are:

1. Stone Evans: I read his newsletter and emails, but aren't involved in his programs
2. Robert Kiyosaki: His books and programs taught me to think like an entrepreneur
3. Robert G. Allen: His book "Multiple Streams of Income" taught me the right mindset
4. Mike Dillard: He taught me sales funnels and attraction marketing
5. Dan Kennedy: This guy is probably the world's greatest direct response marketer
6. Ken Evoy: The creator of Site Build It who taught me the principles of building a high traffic website
7. My Father: He is an amazing man and entrepreneur. We talk daily about life and business.

I learn from these folks through their books, emails, audio programs and courses. I read 30-60 minutes per day.

I don't have a mentor "face to face" but that's okay with me.
