Are you afraid ........ of the big bad wolf??

Postby Joyce Penner on Tue Nov 22, 2011 8:07 am

What's you take on why most get overwhelmed and "freeze" or do very little or nothing to really become successful ?

Afraid of .............? Hard work? Selling? Getting out of their comfort zone? Or could it be ........?

Joyce -
Thank you for posting an interesting question, and one I find challenging to answer as I have a tendency to believe in the best of people.
We have all heard most every 'reason' why not, when we know they can.
All I can say to answer this is that it is just not their time yet, when they are ready, really ready, they will do it!

Hi Joyce,

I think that most people don't really believe or maybe
understand what they are promoting. They are
afrais they won't know the right thing to say. Also
many people are not willing to take the time to learn
what they need to learn to be successful. There is
an epidemic of a lack of self esteem. Many don't
believe that they deserve success. Success is for
others and not for them. Also people are too wiliing
to quit when things get a little tough. Here is a
saying of mine:

The devil will tell you that you can't do it. The world
will tell you that you can't do it. Family and friends,
who have seen all of your mistakes, will tell you you
can't do it. But God says you can! It's up to you whose
voice you listen to. As the Bible says, "I can do ALL
things through Him who strengthens me." "Greater
is He who is in me than he who is in the world."

I can only speak about me, but at one time or another, I have fallen under the spell of all that you have mentioned.

I have made money, than procrastanation, shiny new object syndrome, self doubt, and yes even fear of success, creeps in.

It's all mental, but yes it does happen.

And it can be hard to push through sometimes.

Successful endeavour's take courage, fortitude and a willingness to fight through. This marketing sh-t ain't easy, certainly not as easy as some try to potray it to be.

I was recently on a Frank Kern webinar and even he say's this, IM, and I'll add, NWM, takes work, to be successful.

Comfort zone living can be a real bit-h to living one's dream life!!!

Awesome Barb. Now what do we do about it? What do we say? Where to start to give those who don't have the belief that they deserve it, the desire to continue even through the hard times, the knowledge that it's OK to be successful?

Any suggestions?

Well said !! Mental clarity didn't come easy to me either. I like the phrase you used: Marketing ! There's a distinction between sales (where we make our money) and marketing and that bright shiny object can steal us clear away from where the focus should be.

"What's you take on why most get overwhelmed and "freeze" or do very little or nothing to really become successful?"

I agree with some of what Barb said and also what Willie said!

I also want to add Joyce...

If a person feels inside that they aren't coming from an ethical or moral place OR that they are trying to manipulate people....

By virtue of WHAT they were told they needed to do or HOW to do it from their upline...

Then they aren't going to take action or ever get off the starting block because they just feel so icky about it...

Hence they get "overwhelmed and freeze or do very little or nothing to really become successful."

And the sad thing is, they might not even be able to actually identify what they are feeling...the just quietly go away and think there's something wrong with them.

When in reality, they were just never taught the core basics of prospecting...and putting the needs/wants of their prospects first.

They were taught that everyone wants what they got... everyone needs their product/service... etc.

You know what I'm saying... the same old rigamorol that just ain't right, and creates damage within our industry.

Just my .02...

Later gator and thanks for the thread... I like smart people... ;)

Another Great Topic, Joyce!

I can tell you for me in the past, it was Fear of Rejection, Fear of Stepping out of my comfort zone, Lack of self-confidence, worry, doubt and fear in general. When I learned to replace that with unwavering faith and KNOWING that I could do it, things turned around overnight for me! As you work on your mindset, your self confidence starts to grow, which enables you to then become more confident when presenting yourself to others and that spills over into all areas of your life.

They don't believe in what their selling Joyce.

Fear of rejection, fear of comfort zone are symptons. They are not the root of the problem. In all these years of mentoring, I found these are not it. These are but masks, covering the real truth.

People will be pratting about designing for 10 years on one website, and give loads of stuff for free; because they don't want it to work because......

"What if it works. What if I can't handle it."

And goes on the merry go round, on the yellow brick fantasy road, until they try another opportunity, and another, and another, and another, and buy more books, more this and more than until...

"Ah, this don't work."

They haven't sold to it themselves.

I remember, when mentoring one business four months ago.

I said to him..

"Hey, why you putting that enquiry form next to the basket?"
"It's because.." he replies, "To see if the prospect needed more help."
"No," I said, "It's cause your a spineless guy, who pays me a lot of money for me to tell it as it is to you. How long, are you going to hide? You have all in place, to attract traffic, do all that work to lead them to the flipping basket and you do that? Well, tell me the truth...

*SILENCE* on phone skype for a while.

"But.."
"Don't give me butt. I'm sick and tired of people paying me big bucks to have to show them what they denying. Tell me straight, or we it's over, right now, and NO REFUND. No more mentoring. I mean it. Tell me the damn truth mate or I cannot sort the mess out.."

*SILENCE.*

His wife goes up to him and says, "Tell him the truth."

He takes a deep breath and says..

"But what if this, what if that, what if here, what if there."
"Was it so hard, to tell me you don't feel worthy of your success. But you'd like to see your kids wanting shoes, and your wife kicking off, cause you couldn't even get her out of the job she flippin hates. You like to complain how life is hard. Get it sorted. I got my eye on you from now on."

He never again, let the wolf to "puff and puff," until he blows his house down.

- Lack of self worth.
- Lack of self image
- Lack of belief
- And scared as hell if it works. Real scared, if that success they want so much...WORKS because...

"What if......I can't handle it."

Self Sabotage.

I would like to share something from blog I read somewhere. A woman said she is afraid of success because she doesn't like what it will possibly do to her husband. She is afraid that once her husband becomes too fond of making money, they will lose their time together and all he will think about was make more money. She said what they have now is enough for her. That she didn't want anything more.

This is just an example of "the big bad wolf" that people are afraid of.
