Paying It Forward

Postby Bernard Oh on Sun Nov 27, 2011 7:14 am

Hi there,

I am new to this forum.

I have this suggestion to make with regards to getting referrals. If someone were to pitch to you a program which you never heard of and is unfamiliar, will you truly join it? For me, I wouldn't because there is always that fear of losing your money if it turns out to be a scam. I think that is the natural reaction for most people.

But, if you truly believe in the sustainability and long term viability of the program you are currently in, and pay the way in for that person, anyone will gladly join. They join because the risk of losing money is not there anymore. Typically, for most programs - it required a measly $5 to be upgraded to a basic level membership. Why not pay the $5 for that person?

Once that person becomes your downline, he will have all the time to explore the details of the program, participate in webinars, teleconferences, ask all the hard questions, interact with fellow members, etc. When they are convinced and sold on the program, they will naturally work the program through all it levels and bring others onboard.

Everyone wins, if we ourselves can start by paying other serious network marketers into the program. You don't have to pay for everyone, probably the first 20 people who joined under you.

What do you guys think?

Bernard

Bernard,
When they want it bad enough, they will pay $5 or $5000. We can't want it more for them than they want it for themselves. If you pay the $5 for them, then when the next best thing comes along, they have nothing to lose by leaving your $5 and your business.

Create a fantastic week.

Welcome Bernard, I am new to the forum also, but not new to the industry. There is no free lunch for success and one must have skin in it to win it. Lastly, there is work and support, who is going to work with freebies? There are to many reasons to post here why there would be no success for either party in the method you suggest.

To your success,

Bernard,

I would never pay for someone. After all, people don't appreciate things they are given free, as much as they enjoy things they earned.

If you pay for people, they will have "nothing invested, mentally or financially" and this will make it easy for them to quit.

Just my thoughts.

Hi Bernard,
if your marketing cannot show value to a person,
and they are reluctant to invest in their own future ,then they
are not going to follow through with their commitment.
This is a business and it takes hard work and effort, there
are no free lunches anymore :)

Hi People,

Thank you for your replies and feedbacks.

Yes, I heard what you said. "They will pay when they want it real bad.". "There are no free lunches for success.". "People don't appreciate things they are given free.". "This is business and it takes hard work and effort.".

All these are valid points. But, what I am trying to put across is - can we make it easier for ourselves, it need not be hard work at all.

Someone, once told me this. MLM is just a numbers game. For example, if we able to talk to 1000 people about coming to an MLM seminar, webinar, teleconferencing or whatever platform the company is going to address the paricipants, probably only 100 people will turn up. Of this 100, maybe 10 - 20 people will sign up as members. And from this 10 -20 people, maybe 5 will seriously work the program.

Wouldn't it be great if all those 1000 people turn up in the first place? Imagine, how many will finally get to sign up and work the program with you.

People respond to reward, it is natural in all of us. So, if we can just offer these 1000 people some form of sweetener, nearly all of these 1000 will attend. In the long run, it sure is easier than going the traditional route of recruiting people.

Hey Bernard,

I understand your logic, and spent years looking for and researching (unsuccessfully, sadly) a means of helping the poorest among us for a solution that I could be comfortable with, that wouldn't take up a great deal of my personal bandwidth and that all but eliminated their risk (except for a bit of their time) of losing money. I learned 3 decades ago, no matter WHAT awesome deal you place in front of people, you are going to have adopters, half-hearted "little toe in the water" types, modest successes, and runners.

And there is ZERO, I repeat ZERO way to determine who is on the other end of the line that you are talking to until a week, a month, even a year of water flows under the bridge and you can start counting the money.

My experience has been, as several have suggested in this thread, the LESS skin in the game, the LESS people will value the opportunity.

But it has also been this - when you have a runner in front of you - a true HUNGRY RUNNER in the making, it is BUSINESS MALPRACTICE to send them packing because they are broke. STUPID STUPID. - Don't do that!!

Show them how to generate working capital online FOR FREE - and I MEAN REALLY FREE - no up front money, no ongoing monthly fees, no advertising costs, no upsells, no consulting gotcha agreements - none of that! And when someone takes you up on it, you've just saved your larger business from losing a runner. Because someone you do that for is highly likely to be THE MOST LOYAL PARTNER YOU'LL EVER HAVE. Period.

There is a 50/50 chance that it would work for you. Personal experience - Someone I know made good money from a business she was introduced to and the person who paid it forward for her benefited immensely. If you can measure the determination to succeed of that person you are considering, then you can actually pay it forward for that person. For me, Its a 5% chance that i will pay it forward for someone.

Welcome Bernard. I truly understand where you are coming from and your true intentions.
I did it for a year in trying to drum up sales in getting people to join my opportunity.
Bottomline, it did not work, at all! The more you spend on somebody for their own good will not neccessarily result in that person joining you without some effort on their part. As long as you are giving something away, people will take and want more.
Not putting value on what you are promoting will cost you dearly. You will find out that if that person you are going after do not see the value in what you are offering then it means nothing to them.
I was giving out samples to draw an interest in my market. It did not work with zero results. But many of those same people came back to me asking for more samples and still not joining for themselves.
Just give the facts and show the benefits of your opportunity and let them decide whether they want to join or not.

In an age of 70-80 percent clickbank products and oppties capable of earning a grand a day or more with ZERO capital at risk, why on earth would ANYONE pay someone's way in? Just show them one or more of these ways to raise capital, and let them sink or swim - even the TOOLS and FUNNELS are free with these things. It's INSANE to give people a free pass anymore!

In fact, many are using these "training wheels" oppties to SIFT AND SORT the willing and able - if they can't survive promoting a TOTALLY FREE oppty, how in the world would they survive a paid one?
