Does it help to brag?

Postby Joyce Penner on Thu Mar 01, 2012 4:13 pm

Every time I hear someone tell me what a great leader they are - I cringe !

Are you attracted to someone who TELLS you they are a great leader or does it turn you off?
What say you?

I don't think I've ever really had anyone tell me they were a great leader. If they did and they weren't I probably just shrugged it off. I know it wouldn't bother me.

When it comes to leaders, true leaders, the only criteria I see is they must be able to "lead". Someone who can teach another person and has the confidence to do so is a leader. Most don't brag about it. They just do it.

I know that often when someone puts another person down for their abilities it's usually because they are lacking in those abilities and they're trying to make themselves out to be more than they are. It's a trait of the self appointed leaders.

Oh wait, one person did make me cringe.... Well darn, it's not good to talk politics here. :-)

Joyce,

Great question! It turns me COMPLETELY off!
As they say ...."Actions speak louder than words."

And also, "A burned child fears the fire." I have been burned
a few times because I have fallen for "so called" leaders. Most
of them were recruiters and not sponsors.

I learned my lesson....and aim to be the complete opposite.

Cheers,

Ilka

Just a thought.. Those who brag 'subconsciously' mistrust their leadership capablities.. They are still skeptical about it.. Instead of leading, they tend to impress people.. Look at Warren Buffet, old car, small house but everyone knows how rich he is.. He doesn't brag about it because he is fully aware of his status.. 8-)

Sorry for jumping in, I am kinda new here.. I just want to give this a try.. :)

Like brotip #1584 says...

"you shouldn't have to brag about anything bro. if what you did was legit, other people will brag for you"

Like Shelly Allen (me... ) says...

If you observe a (perceived) "great leader" talking about how great they are... RUN LIKE HELL. Because from my experience, if their lips are flapping and they tell a lot of 'stories' it's to keep your attention off of their lack of success.

And another TELL ALL about that... pay close attention to WHO and IF they are really leading...

I mean is it a bunch of groupies who are just following blindly because they've been promised a stage and told the only way they can succeed is to serve their leader...

OR...

Is this "great leader" actually PRODUCING other great leaders? (This right here is HUGE)

And here's the thing... if they are actually PRODUCING other great leaders they don't have time to be doing a lot of talking about themselves anyway... :D

A saying that comes to mind is...

Liars FIGURE but FIGURES don't lie...

Thanks all of you. I thought maybe it was just me that rolled my eyes at declarations like that!

Sometimes people can tell you about themselves and you would get to know them. Other times they can not tell you about themselves but you will become to believe. Many times you have to find out on your own how good a person is. Still, some times other people will inform you how a person is even without them saying so. You just don't have to brag about yourself.

Walk the talk.

I haven't met a real leader that brags, they just do it.
