I was really excited. I had 100 people on my list. I thought that was great.
My up, up, upline ( a few people above my immediate upline) and I were talking on the phone one day and I guess he figured I was ready to hear some numbers.
He told me: "Less than 2% of those people are going to ask you for more info, or will buy from you."
I was floored. What about the other 98%?? It's not that I didn't believe him but I needed to get that verified.
That information send me on a fact finding mission. And by and large what he told me that day was accurate.
That was just over 4 years ago now, the stats haven't changed that much and what I learned was it was a lot of work (giving away tons of free value) for a very small return to be realized in the distant future.
Some of you will have better returns as you search out, find and zero in on your target market but for the vast majority of us network marketers, my upline was right. It's faster, cheaper and easier to do network marketing the right way.
Now where is he now, I have to go and thank him.

Everyday I only get about 2% of people to open you emails. Experts say you should also get $1 from everyone on your list.
The difference is the relationship with your list I know you call you leads but do you call the people on your list to build the relationship with them.
Only 1% of sales are done on the first contact and 80% of sales are done on the 5-8th contact and if you follow up more times the numbers will only improve. There is no one that has been on my list for over 3-6 that I have not made money from.
My best list ever I was making around $17 for every person on my list.

Hi Chris. I hear you - 7-8 contacts is ideal.
Most people who are promoting an affiliate program (sometimes by default) don't ask for phone numbers nor do people give accurate numbers when they do fill them in.
What I discovered when you weed out all those inaccurate or no phone numbers you get down to about 15% or so. The contact then have to be by autoresponder and most people are flooded with emails so YOUR message gets lost.

I have a much better success rate than 15%, around 80% on a couple AR's. The reason is the same as the reason most of the emails I send get read and why I read emails sent from certain people and trash the rest. Content, if your emails are relevant, helpful, and not full of garbage affiliate links (occasional is good) people will not just throw them in the trash. They will read them. If you are good enough people will look forward to reading them.JoycePenner wrote:Hi Chris. I hear you - 7-8 contacts is ideal.

If you are having bad luck with emails I suggest taking a good look at what you're sending out and change it.

I forgot to mention that a lot of people use email addresses they don't check often, reserved for just such an occasion. That's why we insert "Use your best email address" in our click through page. I think it's that people are getting (or have gotten cynical) and they don't want to be flooded with autoresponder messages in their primary email inbox. That's cool you're getting a difference type of response in ARs.

I've heard about the 7-8 contact rule since I got started
with sales more than 20 years ago.
I'm rereading Frank Bettger's How I Raised Myself From
Failure To Success In Sellng
He found that 93% of his sales were made on the
first and second calls. 70% on the first, and 23% on
the second.
I'm considering whether the 7 contact rule is better
applied to brand awareness and becoming "top of mind'
for the prospect so when they're ready to buy, they'll
think of me.
I'm more interested in making sales on first contact
and keeping customers long-term with service than
waiting for them to get ready to buy.
Keeping the others aware of who you are and what
you do is certainly important; I feel it may be
secondary to making sales NOW.

It has everything to do with what you are offering and who you are offering it to. If it's just a bunch of random click subscribers who only want to see the fancy shiny object you're offering the validity rate is going to be very bad. Also if all you do is offer one affiliate product after another, especially under the guise of being a trainer when you are unknown, the read rate is going to be very bad. Most of that stuff hits the trash.JoycePenner wrote:Stephen Meyer wrote:I have a much better success rate than 15%, around 80% on a couple AR's. The other problem with being a junk emailer is your email AR address can hit the junk folder very fast. Once marked as a junk spammer good luck getting your reputation back.
A problem I had with a very big site I sold 4 years ago was my emails linked to my site and my site became known as a spam site. My emails went straight to the spam folder and the site was blocked by Askimet. Just because of my emails. With over 30K backlinks it still took a year and a whole lot of work to get it back on track so I could sell it.
The emails I'm having good luck with are in very specific Niche sites that have one specific need. My emails almost fill the need. They have to buy the eBook to get the rest of the story and it's worked out well.
I wouldn't send out a bunch of junk emails with affiliate links to the "home based business", "work from home" niches. To risky for me.
