Would you use this Social Media technique?

Postby Betsy Vayda on Fri May 11, 2012 4:56 am

Here is a great article about how "old school" tactics can be revolutionary - especially as fewer and fewer use them.' An old school social media technique

Do you do this? Has it been effective?

Old school marketing can definitely give a different impact. We live in a computer age where everything is done by machines. Seeing a handwritten note is something refreshing, which most of us really appreciate.

I like the idea, it gets rid of all the noise of the Internet and brings a personal touch that would get your prospects full Attention for a few seconds or minutes. If you can get their full attention they will remember you.

I'm amazed that this is considered
a marketing tactic or technique.

A handwritten note is not a
marketing tactic. At least not to
me.

If you're sending a thank-you note as
more of a tactic than to show honest,
sincere appreciation, you probably won't
get the result you desire.

And if your motive in sending a note
IS for marketing purposes, you really don't
know much about marketing at all.

When I first started out I made my own business cards. They looked professionally made at first. But after handling them around, they looked worn and old edges. Is this what I want to look professional on a card?
Sometimes you have to change and do better to look like an authority in your field. Get the professional look in your design and wording. A plain piece of paper may not get the attention you are looking for. It will attract what it gets.

It a relationship building tool.
Thank you notes have always been part that.

Even after a job interview, you send a thank you note.

I helps people remember you, helps you stand out.

Isn't that marketing.

Just because it is marketing, doesn't mean it isn't sincere.

I always try to be sincere.
If it has my name on it, I won't write any sales copy that I don't feel sincere about.

I think I will consider about this.People would be moved by real sincere emtion all the time, the best part of this technique is people won't forget it ,especially when everyone sents emails to say thanks.Speciality is always the best.
However, this technique is apparently more effective and approriate in some industries, like the clothing company metioned in the article, food business.Maybe not very useful in high-tech industries marketing.

I get cards from my Doctor, a Lawyer, an Auto parts Store, Car Dealership (salesman), and a small Farm Store 2-3 times a year. I always read them because they are personalized. Every one of them are sent for marketing purposes although they are sent with a personalized note. The top car salesman at our local Chevrolet dealership puts everyone's name in his computer including children, with birthdays, anniversaries, etc.. His computer automatically sends out cards for each occasion. When it's time to buy again his customers remember him, that is why he's the top salesman. The network marketing company Send Out Cards has been very successful using this concept.

This is not a new marketing concept by any means.

Sure its a cool tactic to remind people, but what people are failing to miss is that this is actually a PROVEN Copy Writing Technique.

Basically, the hand written part is to avoid the circle filing cabinet.

You can also do this sort of thing in social media as well.

I still give people (from time to time) gifts when they become my friend on facebook.

However, there should ALWAYS be some sort of marketing inside of this message.

Failure to do this as a business owner is a failure to run your business.
