Are you a Go Giver Business Owner?

Postby Joyce Penner on Wed May 16, 2012 7:21 pm

Every example Bob Burg and John David Mann used in the " Go Giver" and the "Go Giver Sells More" was a business owner who gave over and above (added value) that which someone paid for.

The buyer bought something and the business owner gave more than what was expected.

How have you incorporated that philosophy into your business transactions?

Or have you?

Hi Joyce,

Funny you bring up this subject. At a local Law of Attraction group last night we hit upon this very subject. We read Chapter 9 of Napoleon Hill's Law of Success in 16 Lessons*, the text that preceded Think and Grow Rich, entitled "The Habit of Doing More Than Paid For."

This sparked a lively discussion about expecting to be paid for everything we do when the real reward comes from giving more than paid for. It made an huge impact on me, caused me to take a hard look at what my thinking has been. (Mirror, mirror on the wall...) Looks like I'm going to "be of service" much more than I have been.

I love synchronicity. Thanks.

In Clarity and Success,

RICK

PS If you want a copy of Hill's original text you can get it here http://bit.ly/16lessons. Give it a chance to download, it's a pretty big file.

"The Habit of Doing More Than Paid For."

In business it all boils down to "getting paid" for something ! I'd forgotten that and should read the book again with the mindset of being in business rather than the self improvement I was initially seeking when I read it before.

Thanks Rick !

Hey Joyce,

Giving more is not always good for business.
Example:

I was on the phone last night with a with someone that signed up under me in a program. He wanted to know this he wanted to know that long story short. I spent way to much time on the phone. Like 45 minutes with this person. I should have been directing them where to find the information. I should have been putting more value On my time, then the person I was talking to would put more value on my time.

Because What if that turns into 100's of people want to spend that much time. I could not handle it. So I need to set a better precedent in the beginning. Now I am not saying to under promise and over delivery. I am just saying to be careful not to get caught in a trap you can not get out of...

I have a friend of mine who constantly says "Mirror, mirror, on the wall ...." when he realizes he has made a mistake and someone jolts him out of it.

You are still in that trap of "helping" and no business owner should or would do that. I too, still catch myself on occasion talking too much when I could be directing them to a learning tool. I don't want to expound on my expertise (directly contrary to what Attraction Marketing as most people perceive it, does), I want them to go and learn it for themselves and then they'll remember it.

Part of that is getting rid of ego and we, who've been around the block a few times, have to lay it down and become that professional pointer.
