I was wondering what do you expect from a MLM business...
I ask you this because, as a trained network marketer, I developed my own idea about the correct way to proceed with a due-diligence of an opportunity. I realized that I need to ask myself only one question:
"If I only could be a customer of that kind of product or service, I would buy it? Well, if the answer is definitely YES, 99% of the work is done!"
This is exactly what happened to me with Asea. I tried the product, tested the benefits, looked at how it works and the incredible potentials. Would you spend a little to be more healthy with a product which is safe and scientifically tested? I think so, and this is the answer I did myself.
What if you can earn money from this and create a robust and lasting residual income? There's no need to reply to this question.
Probably you already made those thoughts in the past but I wanted to underline the concept, as my main target is to inform my prospects, colleagues and friends about network marketing world and trends in order to let them share what they find useful.
Have a great day,
Matteo

Re: What drives you in a due-diligence of a MLM opportunity?
Those are good points too. The company and the products have to make sense.
But if I were to consider starting a business around it I'd really also want to consider who I'm joining and how my partners will be. Am I going to get proper marketing training from this person? Am I going to be mentored by the best? Am I going to be taught a system that works?
As we all know, network marketing is a people-based business. The question I mainly ask is about the people. What am I going to learn when I join these guys? How am I going to be a better leader/marketer/entrepreneur by learning from xyz person?'
These are what I usually consider when joining an MLM.
So for me its basically 50% the person, 40% the system and 10% the product.
Just my thoughts...

That is definitely the beginning, I would go further to say a unique product that can't be found anywhere else. I won't go into comparisons of different products but if its possible to find a perfectly good "calicium" in the drug store, then you will have a difficult time getting customers to see why yours is better. And for sure become a "product of the product" I really don't know if you can truly be a good representative of something you don't believe in 100% and actually that is the key.
Since you brought up health and wellness its really important not to put down anyone's product that is similar to yours, but instead find the unique benefits that you can offer a customer which if it is a quality product should not be hard to find.
Thirdly look deeper than just the product, a good rule of thumb is what do I have to do to achieve my goal of say $10,000 a month. How many customers and distributors do I need to have in my direct organization to achieve that goal. Because the compensation plans are widely different.
Hope that helps!

This is the common mistake in MLM...thinking that psicology is far better than product or company reputation. This is due to the fact that commonly MLM companies have similar products thus don't offer a competitive advantage and they have to count mainly on leadership of their distributors.
But if you face with a Company that offers something really different with a powerful marketing platform, all the rest is secondary. If you can count on something really different you can minimize the efforts and concentrate just in presenting the opportunity with a good attitude.
This can be called "sinergy" between the Company which eliminates advertising costs and distributors that are more committed to sponsoring than to use complicated marketing techniques.
This is what I found in Asea and it's bringing me a renewed motivation and unbelievable results.

I agree. You do have to be a model of your products. You can easily show your prospects the benefits of your products by the results in you.
Finding your 'why' is the second part to keep you going through the thick and thin of starting a business.
Each step you take is a positive one towards your personal development.
Lastly, never quit reaching for your goals.
I spoke to a lady just this evening and I was telling her about my dream of a business. She reminded me not to quit and you will achieve your dream. It takes time and effort and it will grow.
Sometimes listening to someone else tell you something that you knew already gives you the inspiration to continue and become the person you are looking for.

I believe the company and products are just 'potential', nothing more, nothing less. Of course, the company's products/values/mission should also be aligned with yours and the people's demands at the time.
But I do believe if that no matter how superior, unique or in-demand a product is nor how prestigious a company's history may be, success will be short lived without the... ahem... 'psychology', mindset and skills (which can be provided with good training and the right guide) to properly grow a business as an entrepreneur. Having said that, I wouldn't exactly call it a 'mistake' if this philosophy also brings results.
