When you are building your business do you lead with the product or opportunity?
I know it all depends on the company.
I lead by the opportunity, I show people a solution to their problems by knowing their hot button. If they are not the right fit for my business I still show them how to save my money with my product by becoming my customer. What about you?

Re: Leading by Product vs. Business Opportunity!
It all depends on who you are talking to.
Most people is to start out getting to know them and what do they want. I may have a solution that may help them. I would offer a suggestion.
Some people are business oriented. Getting to know them a business opportunity would be offered first. They are looking to expand and this would be a great opportunity.
I would not offer the business opportunity first because most people are not interested. And that is understandable that everybody is not ready to jump out of their comfort zone into a totally unfamiliar adventure.
Getting to know people is the best guide on which opportunity is better to offer first. And even other times it is just best just to get to know them and be that friend. You do have to build trust before they would come to you with their confidence.

Re: Leading by Product vs. Business Opportunity!
The reason I'm asking is because
1. It doesn't depend on the company or product
2. It matters who you're talking to and how you connected
It's not a one or the other proposition
Unless you're specifically targeting people who are looking for
a business, you might not want to always lead with an
opportunity.
When someone asks you what you do, if you always say
"I help people start a home business" or a variation of that,
you'll lose most of them and they won't even want to talk
to you.
It all depends on who you're talking to, how you connected
and most importantly, what they're interested in.
When you know all of those variables you will know how to
proceed to have the best chance for a positive outcome.

You are right, I don't say I have a home based business, In our company we basictly let people know a better way to save money in the wireless industry. Who wouldn't like to get free service and get paid on other people's cell phone bill. In my company we see it more as a numbers game, show people how to save money and if they like it great! If not great! Anyone who sees the value will join.

Re: Leading by Product vs. Business Opportunity!
This is similar to another thread I replied to...
Again, it depends on the needs and wants of the person.
Some of them just wanna buy products - I sell them that.
Some people are ready to become entrepreneurs and want to be in MLM - I show them the way.
Some people dont need or want anything - I connect them with the people who want/need them.
So again, it depends on the person. Knowing your target market and their needs/wants/problems/challenges/etc. is the first step to solving them.
