How to Market Send Out Cards Online

Postby Jim Christopherson on Tue Feb 24, 2009 12:32 pm

I am an existing Senior Manager with Send Out Cards. I've been fairly successful, creating a down line of about 60 people in my first 6 months. I am going on the cruise next month as an Eagle Challenge winner. I only say this so that you know that I am not a neophyte.

However, my efforts have been less efficient than I would like and I "see the light" about social media and online marketing. However, all the research that I am doing points to creating myself as a leader by creating an opt in page and a sales funnel and using an auto responder. Those things are expressly forbidden by SOC in their policy and procedures document.

So, I am looking to learn about online marketing and how to use social media as a way to be much more efficient. As my first attempt to do this well and in compliance with policies, I just created a group on Facebook called Rowboat Marketing designed for small business owners to learn how to market themselves better. I have about a dozen members in the first day and want to build upon that.

Betternetworker is now sending me emails about advertising here. Those ads would need to be approved so I don't necessarily want to go there.

Any input from my fellow SOCers or anyone else?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Feel free to grab me on the cruise and we can brainstorm a bit.

I've been with SOC for 4.5 years :)

The biggest trick is to market SOC generically. As long as you don't use the company name or link to the company web site directly you can do whatever you want. As soon as you use the company name it has to go through the approval process.

I created generic sites for my team. They can then market these web sites and after someone requests information we can follow up with info about SOC, doing a GAW, etc.

Benjamin,

Thanks for your post. I have learned mountains since I posted that about 3 weeks ago and have spoken for hours with Mike Ashton, the compliance guy at SOC corporate and what you say is exactly what I understand as well.

Thank you for the invitation to connect on the ship. I will search you out and ask that you do the same. There are not many SOC people with active and effective online presences that are doing it well. I think that most new people join twitter or facebook and post they are SOC distributors and expect the world to knock their door down. It just doesn't work like that.

Are you on FB or twitter? If so, please follow me and I will do likewise. twitter/jchristo and Jim Christopherson on FB.

Hi!

I'm fairly new to SOC, just about 6 weeks now. I'm doing a lot of prospecting off line, but would also like to begin to build my business online.

Do you recommend building online via Facebook or do you recommend using a program such as MLSP (My Lead System Pro) or both?

Thanks,
Marion

Hi Marion,

I don't use any of those 'systems' like MLSP. I hate those things with a passion.

Generally speaking with ANY system you need to be able to market it. If you can't market it then it doesn't matter how great the system is.

Think of it this way. If you had the most awesome retail store selling a product everyone wants... but your store was in the middle of the wilderness with no roads coming in you wouldn't sell much. Right?

Your web site is the same way. If you don't know how to market your web site then it doesn't matter what "system" you use. And anyone selling you on a system where you don't have to do anything is a big fat liar or else they are selling you advertising shares in a coop and that's going to cost more than $20 or even $99 a month. Know what I mean?

Basically I made my own generic lead capture pages for SOC. Then I teach my team to market those pages.

You have two options. You can create or pay someone to create your own funnel (Lead Capture Pages/Squeeze Pages + Autoresponder Email Campaigns + Sales Pages etc.) or you can use premade ones through MLSP or T7FN (Jonathan Budd).

Either way you are outsourcing for somebody else's talents until you generate your own technical skill.

Marketing SOC online has been a nightmare at times for me...but I've been very blessed to generate a TON of traffic on SOC keywords.

Your better off branding yourself as an expert, focusing on a niche, creating an awesome funnel and either
A) Launching them into the opportunity
B) Back ending them into the product/or business.

Hope that helps!

60 downline! I'm relatively new too, nearly 3 months I think and I'm nowhere near halfway to that. I am speaking to people and sending out cards but need to make much more progress. I think you've done well Jim.

Hello... I'm another newby to this too, four months and I've got a long way to go - and the reason I'm on betternetworker - family and friends are done with me after being thru so many other programs. Sad though as I love and absolutely believe in the product I now have - it's changing my life as I send out cards and gifts. It's been interesting reading thru the posts. Every bit of advice helps.
Blessings.

Hi Kathy - nice to meet you too. Are you in Australia? My husband and I moved to America 21 years ago from New Zealand. Lots of family both New Zealand and Australia. Have a great week and will stay in touch.
