I think I can build a nerve center that is uniquely me and what I'm about. However, what I haven't figured out is how my market research should tie in with the nerve center. Or does it ?

Should the nerve center go beyond whatever company I'm promoting right now ?

Well I guess it depends on what you are going to focus on in your nerve center.
If your going to lead with your MLM Product first then you need todo market research. Now, another idea mike talks about is creating your own How to...product. You could focus on that on your nerve center.

Or ... just focus on YOU.inc. Post articles about what you are doing, how it going, and why others are doing it all wrong and branch out from thier with other websites.

I believe the main concern should be what type of value are your visitors going to recieve by stopping by and why should they OPT IN to your newsletter.

Great points. I am passionate about just giving people value. The gap I see myself filling is the proper application of all these great systems like Magnetic Sponsoring for the person who is willing to try things but needs a little more hand holding.
