"Moderation & Quality Control" for the BN Community

Postby John Leonard on Sat Aug 23, 2008 10:26 pm

I'm not sure I have many suggestions, but seeing as how I sort of started the conversation at the BNL "bar" (what happened to the ambiance)

I thought I would create another thread to steer the conversation of "community moderation and quality control" to a more appropriate forum and away from the more “free spirited and relaxing” BN Lounge..

As Jason stated, they
are knee deep in the process of not only getting content moderators, but we are also going to make some changes to the base content and forum systems to keep the junk out.

Before I go on ranting, I would like to give "two thumbs up" to the forum moderators and community leaders for addressing this issue and their actions to date. I understand that there will always be those who do NOT grasp the BN philosophies and principals for building a successful network marketing business, and who will always look for ways to crawl in under the radar.

I for one, would "welcome" all attempts to rate or ensure the “quality and value” to the community of the videos and articles in the public arena.

I'm always raising an eyebrow  when I see things like the most "popular" vid of the month, with 800 +/- views, without a single rating, posted by someone that has been in the community for 3 weeks, and has less than 10 contacts,

or a points leader that belongs to 60 or 70 + groups.. I mean can anyone honestly add that much "value" to all those groups without a hidden agenda?

I believe the BN platform is without equal in the network marketing industry and with that in mind...

Please know that this post is not intended to throw stones or point out people that are abusing the system..

as much as it is intended to bring an awareness to the issue of "quality control" and solicit thoughts and suggestions from other members on the best ways to address the issue, and to maintain the high level of content that most people are posting.

First off, great move to take the 'business' back to the office instead of discussing it in the lounge! It's never a good idea to discuss business after a couple of drinks.

With that said, everybody needs to realise that in order to gain the maximum advantage from BN the quality has to be kept to the absolute best it can be. Otherwise, we will lose any credibility in the eyes of the search engines as well as people who are looking for what we are offering.

There is no other forum in the world with so many knowledgeable, friendly, supportive, helpful members. Nowhere!

I understand newbies may not 'get it'. They see all these people and think "wow, look how many people I can tell about my business". It's a great business and surely these people will realise that and they will join up and I will finally be able to make some money".

Unfortunately, when it doesn't happen, they keep trying with a different business, or they move on to another forum. Now I for one, don't want to lose them. Personally, I'd rather help them see the right way to use this forum is to make friends and build relationships.

I guess the time has come for us all to step up to the plate. Expecting Mike and the gang to handle it all is both unrealistic and unfair. If you're expecting to get something back from this place, then you have to give it something first.
Okay, I finally opened up.

I've noticed that too with the video and article views etc and I was getting a bit down hearted. However I'm a firm believer if you keep doing your own thing and give helpful info where you can, everything else will follow. And those that aren't will also find their own destiny meets them.

P.S. John I tried to reply to your email but I couldn't so just wanted to say thanks here.

"Very well" said, Sue..

I look at this forum as a "teaching and learning" forum and not a "selling" Forum. The opinions that I have seen expressed here, whether it be a review of anothers blog, website, lead capture page or suggestions on everything from copywriting to online marketing, have accelerated my own knowledge base ten-fold.

I agree we, as members, all have some responsibility for helping to maintain that level of quality. Personally, I would rather interject some humor into the situation (ie"spam, rules, etc.), hoping that "some" of the readers/newbies catch on.

as they say.. "if you can't help another marketer, then don't hurt'em..

As I always say..

"Handle With Care the Hopes and Dreams of Others, to Steal Anothers Hope is to Steal Their Life" jl

LOL, good idea Dean. Not too sure how easy it would be to implement though.

Should have some sort of tracking mechanism to see if user's have read the rules, maybe we should get them to have to 'accept terms and conditions', before being allowed to post?

Who knows?

I guess we just keep plugging away and hope those serious about building a business stick around and those who aren't move on pretty quick.
