Unsuccessful Attempts at Weight Loss

Postby Mike Reynolds on Tue Sep 07, 2010 4:38 pm

This question is for those who have unsuccessfully tried to lose weight.

I am truly interested in finding out the reason real people feel they cannot lose weight. The suggested answers are not meant to limit your response, they are merely to help you brainstorm possible reasons.

Were your attempts unsuccessful because...

A. You did not fully commit to EVERY aspect of your plan? (Diet, exercise, target areas and routines)

B. You could not keep up (or even start) because the plan was too advanced?

C. Your weight loss plan and the goals you were encouraged to set were unrealistic?

D. You have no idea, as you fully committed yourself to a weight loss plan.

Any and all stories and comments are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Mike Reynolds

Well Mike! I am glad you asked this question. At first, I did not think about my weight. I was gaining weight about 5-8 lbs. a year. That was normal. I thought. My pants got larger. I could out run any body my age. I was healthy as anybody else. When I was promoted, I was assigned to an office where you sit all day. I began to stand at my desk. A call came and you had to jump up and go. I was already standing. So I was ready to go. I still got bigger as time went on. I was pleasingly plumb. When my waist size started to go over size 38-40, I knew I had to do something. I would call my mother. You would always call your mother for advice. I started drinking more water. That helped. When it got hot, water was not enough. I tried Gatorade and still eating fried foods and heavy sugar drinks. That did it for me. It landed me in the doctor's office. I had to do something else. I did not know where to start. I did research on my health issues and began to get my weight under control. I began to eat better. I began to feel better like anybody else before a heart attack. That thought woke me up. I later found the company I am with now to bring my weight under control and my health issues addressed. I now exercise daily with my wife and son. There is a trail park nearby where we moved, so we go there a lot. I am much healthier now than ever before.

Wow. Thank you for your experience. I am glad to hear you have found something that helped you get back in shape. It is SO EASY to get caught up in the trap of a desk job and packing on pounds. I personally know that, too, from experience.

I hope your day is going well; and I wish you and your family the best.

Postby Tracey Hausel on Wed Sep 08, 2010 2:28 pm

Mike, my attempts to lose weight have been unsuccessful for many reasons, but when you dig down under the excuses, I'd say that it's the lake of commitment to change my lifestyle.

I've tried many programs and they all worked. I lost momentum and quit.

H i, Tracy! Do you have a family history of heart disease? You must consider all factors to see where you came from. That's one part of your health. You can't help that. The second part is on you. How are you eating? How are you exercising? Why not just start small which is no great feat, and do one thing. Stick with that one little thing. As you are able, add to that one thing. You have to go at your own pace. Mike can instruct you on more ways to get yourself going. And before you know it, it is not a commitment, it is a life style. Remember, you will get healthy. Stay healthy!

Tracy, it takes support to begin to make the healthy choices. DIETS DON'T WORK because we think they have a beginning, a middle and an end. Uh, thanks for playing, but it doesn't work that way. You make the transition slowly and steadily and permanently with the support of someone who has done it before.

When my wife and I started out we didn't know what to eat or how much activity we needed. We found a support group and made changes over time. Heck, we resisted the first step for 3 weeks. Finally we shifted our foods, learned about eating right for our metabolic type and now teach a tele-class to help folks get educated and make the transition.

Mike, what we've learned is that people lose interest real quickly if they don't see some results. They also have to have an interest in making a change. You cannot get people to make a move if they don't want to. I've approached people in the grocery store (after seeing what they have in their carts) and they don't want to hear it. It takes WORK to make a change.

The other things we hear is staying motivated and knowing what to eat. We don't bring up the subject of the "e" word until well into the course and then we disguise it at increased activity. We figure if we can get them eating right for the metabolic type they will begin to feel better, burn fat, lose inches and pounds and that boost motivation.

I'm going to slow up here because I could go on for another 8 or 80 paragraphs. LOL.

Okay, Mike. This is something else I found out over the past month. People are creatures of habit. Try talking to a smoker to quit. He will quit for a while. Then start again, quit, start again, etc. It is habit that is hard to control in our lives. I had a deep discussion with my doctor this past weekend. My doctor says that he found it is hard to change people's habits. They know they are not eating properly to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They will start out meaning well. Then, slowly sink back in the habit they are used to. And the cycle comes back again.
You know the saying, 'I don't remember how I got home.' You drove by habit. You drove the same way for a long time until it became a habit. One day, a traffic signal or sign is installed. You would run that sign out of habit. We probably all did at one time or another. Luckily, a police officer was not there nor anyone else when I came through.
My wife bought some food at the grocery store. 'It was on sale', she claims. It was not a bargain if we don't eat that type of food anymore. All the unsuccessful attempts will continue until we can break these habits and learn to be healthy.

Just to retouch on your article, Mike!
I see people on my job with serious weight problems.
I am embarrassed to approach them and let them know I understand about their tremendous weight gain.
I have to understand how it got so much out of control. They have an important job that requires 8 hours or more sitting down. At lunch, you have to eat, then go back and sit down for the rest of the day.
Some one comes by and do your mail or run errands or other menial tasks in the office. The job requires the person to sit at a desk and work.
My job is trying to get these people motivated and just get active again. I can see the imprint of a chair on their backsides. :)
How can they even begin to think of losing any weight when their jobs requires constant sitting and less movement. :!:
I can only suggest ideas for them to try to begin to address their weight problem. :?:

Hi,

My strategy is just to get people to see the tools, in other words, make sure they know what I do, make sure they know they can go to my website and check videos, also, if I have them on my mailing list, I send a newsletter that always has testimonials, some eventually will see the light.

One more, with friends I am very direct, I tell them if they really want to feel better, or see their kids grow, etc, they must change! I say even if you don't do my products, you have to do something about. When you show you care, they do not get offended.
