Cancelling domain registration with godaddy
Help. I just registered a ton of domain names on Friday night which of course came with hosting. My total expense was around $300. Now I think I need an all-in-one lead generation system that will help me build/manage pages, send autoresponder letters, split-test, etc. and that comes with registration/hosting. I'm a lawyer and it looks like I have a 5 day grace period to cancel with godaddy at no charge. But it also looks like I can't reregister the names for 60 days so I might lose them. Any advice? Thanks. Ann

I have been recently working with GoDaddy and they seem to be very flexible. I would say to talk with them and work it out if you can.they just might have a solution thaty will be mutually beneficial for bath party's. They want your business and you want the domains, I am sure that something would be arranged.

You really don't know what domains will work and what ones won't. The ones I thought were hot went nowhere and the ones I would never believe did. I suggest you test them out. Put something on them and then see how people respond to them. If you don't like them, put up for auction but paid parking them is better because people pay you to advertise on those parked sites. Some time you might decide to resurrect the parked sites. Hosting doesn't take as long as they say. They say that long in case it does.
I have a ton of domains too, and some do well and some don't.

Re: Cancelling domain registration with godaddy
Thanks for all the advice and constructive criticism, guys. The problem is that I have massive plan which is why I reserved so many domains. When I do something, I do it big. After listening to Mike DIllard's traffic formula, I decided to get some generic ones, some for my affiliate capture pages, some for my opportunity pages, some for my product pages and a few other niche markets I am going after. Plus I reserved the .nets and other extensions on the one that I plan to use for my own lead gen business when I get time to build it. So that's the reason for all the domains. As for changing my mind, it's only because I got a subsequent offer from Mike and another guy to buy an all-in-one system called Instant MLM Profits that has all the tools I am going to need like autoresponder, split tester, web hosting, metrics, etc. So it seemed to be a better deal than buying all the products separately and wasting time learning FrontPage. It's probably a moot issue now since my grace period with go daddy ended but I guess it's worth giving it a try if they are known for flexibility. Thanks for everyone's time and insights. Ann

Re: Cancelling domain registration with godaddy
Hi Anne,
I think you'll find that the domain name registration won't be a waste, it's just the hosting that you want to cancel and switch. You can change the "A address" in your godaddy backoffice to host the domains elsewhere.
You should do some more research before you jump at anything else. I think the Instant MLM Profits is a yearly charge but it limits you as to how many sites you can host for the one price either 3 or 10 depending on the package.
I like to build a lot of websites, with the replicated lead captures I make for my downline I have probably built well over 70 sites now and they are all hosted for the low price of 37.95 a month. This also includes a built in autoresponder and audio and video capability, no html knowledge required, full video tutorials etc. You can get a 14 day free trial and check out all the features at:

Either way, yes you're better with a web builder program if you want to keep it simple and do your hosting elsewhere.
All the best for your success,
Adrian

Re: Cancelling domain registration with godaddy
Hey Anne,
The 60 day rule is based on ICANN regulations and cannot
be undone. You're stuck with Godaddy until that time is up.
After which, you will likely have a charge for transferring.
Chances are, even with your new system, you would have
to pay about the same price for domains anyway.
Your best bet at this point, is to cancel the hosting package
with Godaddy (easy) and change your nameservers in the
Domain Manager. You will still have FULL functionality on
your own hosting package. This is no big deal and people do it all the
time. You're still in good shape.
If you need help on changing nameservers, drop me a line.

Re: Cancelling domain registration with godaddy
Dean,
You're right. I should have clarified.
SOME domain companies will charge a transfer fee. Some will not.
I was basing this on my previous experience trying to transfer
from 1&1 to Godaddy.
Kind of an identical situation to Anne.
Perhaps the transfer fee was TO 1&1 instead of from it.
Either way, I can't recommend 1&1.
