Reading the great content here on Betternetworker I've noticed posts that have hundreds of viewings, but only a handful of comments and maybe 1 or 2 votes.
Why would someone take the time to view a post, yet not take a couple seconds to leave a comment, or a half second to vote on it if they liked it? Look at some of the most viewed articles, blogs and videos here on Betternetworker, and you will see what I mean. When you have hundreds of viewings, and only a handful of comments, and even fewer votes, it just doesn't manifest prosperity in the community!
Is it apathy? People will do more for a bit of acknowledgment than they will for money, so just imagine if everyone took a minute to comment and vote on the content here, it would create a very positive environment for the new people who are just getting their feet wet with blogging, articles, and video's.
To the new member this would be very encouraging, and the retention rate here on BNW would soar! To the instructors and old timers who would like to know that people are really reading and getting this stuff, it would be an inspiration and boost to their creativity, there by adding even more value to the community.
It would also be obvious to those who are not adding value to the community as their ratings would be low, and they would have to step up if they wanted to brand themselves as someone who brings value to the table.
I appreciate any and all comments and feedback on this forum post, thank you!

Re: Why are so many people Apathetical here on Betternetworker?
I think alot of people come to this site and sties like it looking for the "Majic Answer" that one phrase or thought or call that will take what they bought into for 49.99$ and make it make loads of money with with no work.
We all agree pople are lazy. So I think most choose to search for the holy grail of ideas or products or whatever. For some reason it seems easier to them adventure insted of buckle down and do the work.
As for the votes. i would not read too much into that, I have not known many people to bother about forum votes. I know some wont respond due to it taking effort or thought, still others feel it has been said and others feel that their opinion does not matter.
There is one other group tho, beyond the on lookers, beyond the newbies, beyond the adventures even. The Jaded, we have all met them beat down by life, not realy looking for answers or even help but simply looking so at some point they can jutify themselves and pass blame. They don't want to do new things and some would not chang themseles and their style if you promised them 1000's for doing so. All they want is to say, at the end of the day " I tried as hard as I could."
*please forgive the poor spelling and typing I have a 1 month old in my arms*

Hey Paul, That's a good question. Could it be that everyone is so busy trying to create new, original content that they think it's a step down to just write a reply or vote on someone else's thoughts?
I think the later is much easier. It's much easier to find a post, good or bad, and whip up a quick reply or, easier still, vote on it.
Sometimes, I think some people just try to make things too complicated.
Best regards,
Kevin

Good point Paul. Also the lack of big strong groups is irksome. Love to see the answers to this thread.

I don't know if I can guess what other peoples motives are or are not. I can only speak for myself.
Apathy? I'm not sure if I would got that far and this is not unique to BN by any means. I see that on most communites. I believe that there are a majority of people that just like to be the "fly-on-the-wall" and try to pick-up some good information. I don't have a problem with that.
At least they're here and reading. I post a lot because I have an opinion on everything
So I wont call it apathy, but it would be good if more people participated.
As far as the voting thing goes. I never remember to do that anyway.

I think it is also a fear of getting spammed- if they let you know their contact info they might get flooded by people with their opportunity- I know because it has happened to me

Re: Why are so many people Apathetical here on Betternetworker?
I agree with you Paul... Sometimes I look at the forum post and start with the ones that have the most views and the most comments. Then when I see a lot of views and no comments, or very few, I start to form the opinion that the content is not worth reading about. I know that's not necessarily true and I am as guilty as anyone because I don't leave as many comments as I could.
So thanks Paul for the reminder... I will do my best to leave more comments and votes, starting with this one.
Freddie... I hope things are smooth sailing for you.

Re: Why are so many people Apathetical here on Betternetworker?
I think most forums are like this, a lot of views, but few replies.
Majority of the people are not going to respond. Some of the views are from people who have posted, but want to see what others have posted. Some just like to read other people's opinion or maybe feel they do not express themselves that great in writings.
There are a number of reasons people do not reply. Apathy maybe one, but that is not my feeling here.
Many of the replies I have read do add value to the discussion, this does take time to write a formulate your idea and express it in a way that everyone can understand. Forums loose their effectiveness, if people just reply to just reply to a post.
I don't vote for thread because I did not know you could. I tried to figure out how to vote for a thread, but could not figure it out. Majority of forums I visit do not have a voting system, so I am not sure if I would use even if I did figure out how to use it here.

I'm not talking about the forums here as far as voting goes, you can't vote on a forum. It's more the Articles, Blogs, and Video's I'm referring to. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
