When I went to college to study architecture there was a member of the faculty being considered by a fairly large U.S. city to receive the commission to design & execute their new urban planning project. He was thought to be the clear favorite so when he didn't get it we were all stumped.
The story quickly circulated that he was refused the commision because he wouldn't agree to his wife sleeping with the city council president! Guess he wouldn't do whatever it took to make it!
This certainly has an air of rumor around it but it still begs the question:
As a Networker have you ever said "I'll do whatever it takes"? You've certainly heard it.
It is something you could witness in corporate Amercia but not usually hear openly spoken. Yet in our community of Networkers and Multi-Level Marketers, it is not only openly stated, it is worn as a badge of passion and determination, as a way to - and here's that word again - attract others to us and our opportunity/business.
Do you think this willingness to do 'whatever' it takes to make it is part of what turns people off to us networkers?
I'd love to hear what you all think.

Re: "I'll Do Whatever It Takes"
Hi Tony;
Interesting point. If we all were willing to do whatever it takes to make it in internet marketing, then 97% would be successful instead of the other way around.
But yes, you make a good point. "Doing whatever it takes" has always bothered me, because you can't take it literally, everyone draws the line somewhere for everything.
It also has a sound of desperation to it.
Perhaps doing whatever it takes, "within reason" would be more palatable.

Ha! No... There is a fine line between determination/focus/dedication vs. "the end justifies the means". If people misinterpret the expression that way, it is only a relection of their level of mindset and you don't want them in your business anyways.

All I can say my friend is perseverance pays, but only if there is potential.
Keep at it and never let that burn and passion inside you be smothered!

Re: "I'll Do Whatever It Takes"
Great discussion.
Just in the last 3 weeks I was asked to join a specific group that will be working with Isaac McLemore (metabolife fame) to achieve financial success in 90 days. He has asked us to "make a 100% committment to doing what he says" if we do we will achieve a 5 figure income in 90 days.
Well then I read your forum and it reminded me how I am ready to make that 100% committment but not at any cost.
It is truly imperative that as network marketers we find a company with integrity, focus our attention and give it that 100% committment. It is also true that if everyone who decided to follow the network marketing path was truly willing to make that committment then we could turn the success rate around. But sadly that is not the case and most people just aren't willing to make the committment and work for it.
But doing whatever it takes is never the answer; I would not mislead anyone as to the reality of network marketing. It takes work and drive to make it but as I see it, it does not take doing what ever it takes but it does take being committed and believing you can do it.
Well I believe do you?

Thanks Seth for your comment.
I have no intention of quitting. If the bastards didn't get me the first three times, they won't now 'cause I found a great company I very happy with, product-wise, comp plan-wise; management-wise and community support-wise.

Re: "I'll Do Whatever It Takes"
Gary,
Thanks for your comment. You picked up on where I was going but worded it better than I did. That expression "Whatever it takes" reeks of deperation and always seemed to me to be a way to convince one's self the right decision was made, especially when things aren't going too well and the second- guessing is creeping in.
Gotta be careful of that macho thing and know when to cut your losses.
Thanks again.

Re: "I'll Do Whatever It Takes"
Yeah Ken, you're right I wouldn't want them in my business.
But if I hear a downline member say it, I take it as a red flag that someone MAY be seriously struggling. So it can function as a great barometer.
Thanks for joining in.

Re: "I'll Do Whatever It Takes"
Colleen,
Sounds like you have your priorities set right. Doing whatever it takes is obviously a figure of speech but some might take it literally. And not only newbies or downline.
5 figures (a minimum of $10,000) in 90 days sounds 'too good to be true' to me. I'd love to hear more about this.

Re: "I'll Do Whatever It Takes"
Hi again Tony;
I like your "stand alone" or landing page that says "MLM is about YOU, not a product or a company!
That sums it up, and if WE all stick with that approach, WE can't go wrong!
To your success Tony;
Gary
