Okay this is mainly meant toward the newer users just coming on here. At first glance you may think this is an excellent place to spam your opportunity, or maybe even to scoop up some new recruits for your business. However the following list is really what you stand to gain if you use BN properly. This is based on my experiences from the past year and 2 months I have been a member here.

1. Forming Alliances: BAM, right there. More rewarding than a new sign up or some traffic to your blog is an alliance. I have met so many awesome people here and on top of this formed business partnerships. From these alliances I have learned so much and accomplished so many new things that ave literally made me thousands.

2. Establishing YOU: This is the new age here people duh. You're not marketing your opportunity anymore, it's all about marketing yourself. And when you're on BN interacting with new and well established people in this industry you have an amazing opportunity to establish yourself as a resource. This in turn will form more alliances.

3. Walking the 2 way streets: Helping without expecting, giving without receiving, doing without asking. All these things are necessary and rewarding. You can expect to gain reputation and establishment of yourself and in turn more friendships/alliances!

No problem Sharon, trust me this site is not about getting your links and catch pages out to as many people as possible, that's not what networking is about - neither is this a classified ads site for people's business pitches. Just relax, have fun and be persistent.

All points in your list are spot on.

The only one I personally see slightly different, and really its more of a matter of semantics, is #2.
I see "marketing" differently than "establishing." And I really like the way you worded that second point.
You are establishing yourself in the community; building an audience.

Which in my eyes makes marketing your business more effective.

So I think it's fine to market your business, but in order for it to be effective in a community like this or any other "social media" platform, you have to back it up with massive value in order for people to take you seriously. The whole "know-like-trust" equation is built upon your contribution.

The spammers, leeches, or naive newcomers get it wrong by jumping in head first with "buy my sh*t" without first adding value and EARNING the right to market their wares. In which case it's just a matter of educating the noobs or a swift kick in the ass for the spammers.

Richard, excellent input (as usual too) and yea I see your point, marketing and establishing are definitely two different things. Though they could technically be grouped together there are certain aspects about marketing you want to leave out when it comes to establishing yourself as a resource and vise versa. Thanks for the feedback buddy!
