Help! I have a storage problem?

Postby Jim Ticehurst on Sat Oct 16, 2010 11:36 am

I know that this is rather a 'weak' kinda question...but I am gonna ask it anyway:
I have so many pieces of paper laying about with phone numbers and web address's on I was wondering if there is anywhere online where I can store this type of information? regards Jim T.

ps. (before anyone suggests a diary or address book I am really looking for something that I can update or erase items in I have made such a mess of all my old diarys etc)

Hey Jim,

I can totally relate to your situation. Personally I have found that using G-Mail for an address book, and Google Bookmarks for web addresses. It only takes one account through Google (http://www.google.com/accounts). It has helped me stay more organized.

Of course, I know some people are scared to "give" all that information to Google but I don't think anyone is sitting there going through you address book ;)

Anyways, that's my two cents. I hope that helps.

I recommend the Gmail as well. However, I know that before you get those scraps of paper entered into whatever online gathering source you choose, you may have the same problem that I had.
I gather a tidbit of information, a name, a website, an email, and it needs to be written down. Sometimes a handy sticky note is available. Sometimes it may be a scrap of paper, or a sheet printed out. What I did was take a spiral notebook, and it became my "depository" until I can get it entered into Gmail. Every piece of paper it taped or stapled into that spiral.
It was the best solution I could come up with, because my desk was beginning to look like some weird "sticky feathered bird" that was going to take flight.
If you find another solution that find works for you, I would love to know about it- I'm always willing to look at "organization" options!! :)

It's funny you mentioned this now. I found myself writing on post it notes. I have several of these little boxes. A lot of times I need to write somethings down right away. A post - it note would come in handy. I thought about just listing everything on my computer for easy reference. When the web site is down, you can not access that site until it comes up some times later. But, if you list it on your computer, like 'notes' or 'word pro' and title it, you will have it handy. If you have the list on the face of your computer, it would be the first thing you see when you turn on the computer.

Thanks for the responses. Much appreciated. You know what sometimes we have to see comments like these to realize that the problem isn't the problem at all...it is simply poor thinking on our own part.
When I read the comments about Google accounts and pondered the possibilty of others reading my saved precious website address's well the 'penny dropped' as they say. It dosent really matter who reads the stuff that I have saved it's all rubbish anyway....
If I saved my login to Betternetworker and some cyber thief got it....well good luck to them.
Over 95% of my stuff is just websites that I have saved that I may never even use...and all my banking accounts are elsewhere anyway. So when you really think about it "how much of the stuff that we save is really valuable"?
So to cut a long story short I am definitely gonna save all of unimportant stuff on Google and if any code crackers get access to it...well good luck to you...you will most likely die of boredom, thats it, regards Jim T.
