Why are my Facebook Friends so quiet....

Postby James Bennett on Fri Feb 11, 2011 3:16 pm

Just forwarding the love on.....

I just heard this and sure enough it seems like lately there just hasn't been a lot of activity going on in my facebook newsfeed....

I believe that I have uncovered why.

The latest facebook settings may be interfering with keeping you up-to-date on all of your friend's status updates.

The default settings now only show friends you interact with the most in the newsfeed... that means that people you have had little interaction with probably will not show up in yours....

And the opposite is true as well. People are not seeing your updates if you aren't interacting with them either.

HERE'S THE FIX:
Scroll down to the bottom of the newsfeed on the homepage and click on "Edit Options", click on "Show Posts From" and change the setting to "All Of Your Friends and Pages"

Now, make sure that you are regularly interacting and acknowledging your friend's post so that you stay in their newsfeed all the time.

Hey Jamie,

I think you're right. We're so used to posting an update and clicking Share, that I don't think people noticed that Facebook changed the default settings.

Thanks for the tip on changing the Share option.

Thanks for the tip. I did check my site and did the update.
One good reason the friends are quiet, because they have nothing to talk about. They may be getting bored talking to the same people and everybody commenting on what they say online.
They then play games that no body wants to join.
They are also looking for something or someone online to be more socialable. One lady got me off her list of friends because I was not who is was looking for.
Another became my friend, then put me on a list of alumni. She did not ask me to join or get my permission.
I took her off my list as well.
It seems that people are now busy doing other things instead of wasting their time on a social network and not going anywhere slow.
Still another was a homemaker and online all the time. She now got a job working outside the home.
There have been many reasons, I have just named a few. They connect when they can and talk whenever possible and continuing their lives outside of facebook.

Thanks for the tip. I also updated my profile.

I, for one, don't have as much time as I'd like to interact on Facebook, Twitter, etc. I work 2 jobs, am a farmer and am trying to build my dog training business to go with the farming in addition to my network marketing/mlm business. I schedule the time for my social interactions so I make sure I get to talk to friends and family a couple of times a week. I aim for 2 hours every 3rd day (at minimum) to post updates, read news from everyone and to say hello to new friends. With my busy schedule, that's what I know I can manage, and when I have extra time, I do hop on to see what's happening even if I don't post back immediately.

Twitter is easier because I can tweet from my smartphone.

Happy Networking :-)

Stephanie

That is so true, Stephanie!
People can get off of facebook, twitter, and others. I can say to all to get a life!
I'm off to go to the circus with my family.
No working my cellphone to twit anybody for a while.
Enjoying my family is most important right now without reporting back to the social network of what I've been doing.
It's nice to comment on your day every now and then. But not all the time. Give it a rest! Get a life!
Everything does not evolve around the social network.
Everybody else sees that and are just as happy without it.
Just come back every once and a while to check in and get updates on what's happening.
