Lawrence.Hi!

Hitler in the past...and Hugo Chavez in the present...are real examples of the power of the media...either with images or in writing.

When we were born...we came to this world...with little bias mostly taken from our own mother that we learnt when we were growing in our mother's womb.

All the mess started when learnt lots of stuff from our relatives and teachers and of course from what we heard in our environment...that includes the radio...songs and news...my God...those things shape people's minds in such a way that they produce a nation's culture.

The radio and TV waves are so filled with negativity that there is no way you can avoid to be influenced by them!

Even though that such measure to quit hearing radio and watching TV sounds ludicrous...makes sense when you get to know the real effect such things have in your emotions!

Now a days...there is a new way to take vacations...and is very simple...once you get to the place you must quit your computer...your cell phone...your viper...and you get into a very pristine place totally isolated from the outer world...and let me tell you IT IS WORKING because is coming very popular.

Be well,

Roger Aburto
P.S.If you can not afford such kind of vacation like myself included...you still can have great results praying and meditating is things above the fleshy things....yes spiritual things...and let me tell you...you do not need to relay in weird techniques of the like of Buda meditations to reach your goal...that is the expensive way...and beside is not needed...the Christian way is free and easy to learn!

I glad you mentioned this, Lawrence.
Before moving, we gave away our big television. It was cheaper not to take it with us. And it has paid off for us.
We are no longer stuck under the television and watching movies all the time. That time is now spent getting out of the house and enjoying life together. Going to the park, the movies and just family time together.
It was the best thing that we could ever have done to experience life at its fullest. We gave away alot of furniture that would remind us of getting another television. I restored my entertainment center from over 20 years ago. A turntable and records brings memories and experiences of a yester year.
And you know what? We don't miss any of them. We are better off without those conveniences that would make us seditary and lazy at most.
We are reading more and have more time together. That time lost spent working long hours at work somehow have been regained with that time together.
If you try it for 30 days, it may just turn into a year. You won't miss not having it around knowing that you are now healthier for doing it!

Man is this a great topic. I just moved recently and have not even taken a tv out of the box. This is a perfect time for the 30 days. I am noticing that now that I am gaining back time and reading now. Gaining a healthy mind is invaluable. Thanks for the challenge.

I love the idea of no tv, in theory. But I have young children and I don't have the patience to not use the tv :( . I did try it for the first eighteen months of my eldest child's life but when I had the second one the tv became invaluable.

My 2 televisions have been turned of for a long time know.

When I moved into my current flat nearly 2 years ago I had 1 motnh of preview of some 25 tv channels but media is very boring the older you get. I have not subscribed as the cost does not ad up to the value watching it does.

When I do want to watch something it should be positive and funny or educational.

I don't just do it for 30 days, it is now a way of life. I have found that the addition of tv is just that, an addiction. I find that when I do watch, I am very selective.

Hi Ceri.
I noticed when our child was little he was put on punishment. We sent to his room. Normally that is suppose to be a punishment. But rather it was exactly where he wanted to go in the first place! Everything he ever wanted is in his room. He was very content to stay in his room. That was an indication to us that this way of punishment was not the answer. An alternative means of punishment had to be set up. We got out of the house and kept him busy doing other things. We got involved with him more. He traveled with us more. He has been places most other kids have never been.
Turning off the television was the best thing for us to get our child out of the house and actively playing like a normal child. Going to a museum or the zoo is something you don't have to watch on television and become seditary. And what he doesn't know that he is learning all the time!
