Hi Everyone,
I thought this might be a useful one to chat through, seeing as we are in holiday season.I thought it would be a great opportunity to share some ideas on how we juggle holidays with family and the pc?

I am having two very different types of breaks both coming up very shortly, one to Edinburgh for a week at the Festival/golf which will be a busy busy type of holiday!

The other under canvas in the Uk what a mug I must be! surrounded by children!

So how do you plan your days whilst you are on holiday with regards to work?
Do you take your pc with you?
Or do you completely switch off whilst away?

I'm really looking forward to hearing from you and sharing with others how we can get the balance just right, rather than at tipping point, so suggestions on a postcard!

Now is the time to connect with your family and turn off the computer and really enjoy being with them. There is nothing wrong with bringing along some business cards with you to hand out. Since you can not or not recommended to carry your laptop with you, there is your phone with access to the internet for the quick checks on the business status.
Currently, I am between vacations and going everywhere just about every weekend. There is no time to be on the computer with all the activities going on around us. Showing others that you are having a great time with your family they may want to join you in your business to experience the same as you show every day! If you are present in body and not in mind at holiday events nobody will want to get to know you. And nobody will want to join you because you represent work. Instead, show them the fun side of your business so everybody will see how much fun you're having in this business.

Good points Mario, so you operate a quick check in check out policy whilst away! It's the luxury of working from home that enables us to enjoy our holidays and quality time with our family and loved ones and it's important to recognise the real value in this.
Unashamedly my phone and pc will be locked away.....by my partner!!

Thanks for posting this interesting question.

For me, I still briefly check my business via the virtual office whilst on vacation. I also do business the way as mentioned by Mario. Network marketing is such an interesting and fun business model that we can be doing it any moment!

Yes great idea. I agree planning in advance and scheduling in for Blog post and email releases keeps the virtual assistant busy!

Mobile technology has made it so no one ever needs to even know you are on vacation if you do not want them to. I do everything via my mobile phone and laptop. I am so thankful for my mobile phone!

Depending on how far you are you can automate everything you are doing. If you are blogging you can write articles in advance and schedule when you want them released. Everything else can be done quickly if you have a moment to get to the computer.

Jared, this is a good point. Planning some extra time into your schedule before you go away to write blogs, articles and emails and time them to be published whilst you are away is brilliant.
Stuart Ross my colleague last year sent a very well planned email out to his customers/list last year whilst away for 10 days. Where he was going he was not able to pick up an internet connection. When he got back that 1 email had earned him more than the cost of his holiday!

I am one who believes in putting systems in place right from the beginning and that makes it easy to work very little if not at all when on vacation..The other is setting up a great team..I always see who is better at certain things than I am and let them handle it so my vacation is really a vacation
Quality of life is important and I think if you have a business that cannot operate without you being involved everyday then you are missing leveraging the efforts of others & automation
The goal is to be able to go on more vacations and enjoy the family while you get paid and others continue to learn from the foundation you put in place
