2) Drive traffic
3) Get conversions
4) Split test your page to get better results
5) Follow up with leads
6) Look for additional ways to drive traffic

I think the most important step, which is often overlooked is the "follow up" part. Learn how to build solid relationships with your subscribers and you need WAY less leads to make WAY more money.

Split testing etc is good but a simple look at how you follow up can yield even greater results.

I really agree with Rachael here, the money is in the follow up, it really is counter productive to build a list and do nothing with it, this is one of the downfalls of online marketing, getting potential customers and not knowing what to do with them.
There are 5 basic steps to selling whether online or off, adapt these into your online marketing
1. The Welcome - Have a great Landing page/squeeze page/authority website where you can direct your traffic.
2. Once people opt in, build a relationship with these people. ( people buy people first)
3. Qualify your prospects, so you begin to direct them towards the correct relevant products in your marketing funnel.
4. Overcome any Objectives people may have this is alot easier to do if you have a good relationship with them as people will develop trust in you. Afterall there are alot of scams out there.
5. Obtain the Sale
Rinse and Repeat!!

Relationships with customers ... follow-up: agreed. The money is in the repeat customers. The satisfied repeat customers.

Partly of course the relationships and follow up can take place via email, meaning one list for the new comer and another for existing customers (which can be automated depending on email service). But it depends on the business model.

Where email is part of the follow up and relationship, style certainly plays a role (hint: write conversationally). Length of email campaign also matters (as in years rather than months ... and seasonally or "special deal" where applicable).

Some great stuff here. In my experience, building an email list for those who are beginning is a process, not a destination. As entrepreneurs prospects are attracted to the value that you bring into the marketplace, but more importantly in their lives. Prospects don't respond to advertising as much as they used to which is why it is important to offer value for free, often times A LOT of value for free in order t build a list.

Personally, Blogging and Video has been my central hub for delivering value for free. I also am a advanced contributor over in the Rich Dad forums. It has been a great way for me to establish myself as an expert in that community, as well as get good feedback from my audience to help improve my marketing. Until just recently I have crossed over into the better networker forum. Pleased to meet you all.

Follow up is important. But, it helps to have LOTS of prospects to talk with and follow-up with.

Sure, you have to follow up. But, you also need enough "numbers" to get the results you desire.

Selling is a numbers game.
