How Do You Promote Your Blog Posts?

Postby Adam Morgan on Mon Jan 13, 2014 11:27 pm

How do you promote your blog posts? Below you'll find what I'm currently testing out.

I made a New Year’s resolution to focus on this blog of mine. In order to help this blog grow to where it needs to be, I will be adding guest-posters to contribute to the site’s content.

On January 5th, I published the site’s first guest-post, which you can find here. The reason for me sharing my resolution and talking about guest-posting is because I wanted to document some of the things I’ve been learning and applying. Over the Christmas break my wife and I went to California and stayed with her family. While we were there, I bought several kindle books to read on the flights and at night.

One in particular is worth sharing and you can find that here: My Blog Traffic Sucks! 8 Simple Steps To Get 100,000 Blog Visitors by Steve Scott

Don’t be fooled by how cheap the kindle book is ($2.99). In it I learned a very powerful system for blog post promotion and I would like to share it with you below.

Step #1 – Ping the search engines

Search engines typically crawl webpages pretty fast. By pinging the search engines, you accelerate the process. To do this, you’ll want to go to http://pingomatic.com/, enter in your blog post URL, and select the services you’d like to ping. It’s all free too.

Step #2 – Email your blog post to your subscribers

Every blogger should be building an email list of subscribers. In this step, you’re telling them to come to your blog and read the article. I copied and pasted the first 150 words or so and then said, “To continue reading the full post, click here: LINK”.

Step #3 – Schedule multiple tweets

There are a variety of softwares and services out there that will accomplish this task. I have always used TweetAdder for scheduling of tweets.

Step #4 – Share your article on Pinterest & Facebook

The key on Pinterest is to have an attractive image. I hired a guy on Fiverr.com to create such an image for me. I used that image to promote my article on both Pinterest & Facebook. I did the same thing that I did with my email list – shared the first 100 words or so and linked to the full article.

Step #5 – Link to your article on StumbleUpon

Steve Scott says he’s generated 12,000 + visitors from this social network. If it’s good enough for him, then it’s good enough for me. I shared my first article on StumbleUpon.

Step #6 – Bookmark your article with IMAutomator.com

This site allows you to bookmark your articles quickly and cheaply to the best social bookmark sites out there. This will help with your search engine rankings.

Step #7 – Post your article in a relevant forum

When you’re posting content in forums, you’ll develop authority and make new connections. Most forums allow you to have a signature with a link. I posted my whole article and created a catchy signature. The goal was to provide value and hope that after reading the article, forum members would click on my signature link.

Results from first article promotion:

The week before I published Kevin’s guest-post looked like this:

december 28th: 4 unique visitors
december 29th: 6 unique visitors
december 30th: 4 unique visitors
december 31st: 6 unique visitors
jaunary 1st: 0 unique visitors
jaunary 2nd: 3 unique visitors
jaunary 3rd: 4 unique visitors
jaunary 4th: 3 unique visitors

total: 30 unique visitors

The week after looked like this:

january 5th: 2 unique visitors
jaunary 6th: 7 unique visitors
jaunary 7th: 3 unique visitors
jaunary 8th: 4 unique visitors
jaunary 9th: 10 unique visitors
jaunary 10th: 20 unique visitors
jaunary 11th: 4 unique visitors
jaunary 12th: 8 unique visitors

total: 58 unique visitors

I experienced a significant spike in traffic. This proved to me that this 7 step promotion process works. I will continue to use this process and fine-tune it.

Empire Avenue is another place. It is like a game where you can buy stock in people and they can buy stock in you. It is all around fake money they call eaves. You can buy eaves with real money if you want.

However, you can create missions to get people to like, share, comment on your content, and many more things in exchange for eaves. Of course you can buy eaves if you wish or do other people's missions for eaves.

Playing the stock market part a little every day and do one or two missions you can build up a lot of eaves everyday.

You may not want to do this for every post, but one you really want to get more promotion out of then Empire Avenue is a great little resource to use.

Hey Guys,

I tested a syndication method for the past 2 weeks.
What I do is as soon as I'm done with my post I ping it using pingler.
Then I got to socialmonkee and get some social bookmarks.
I also share it on all the major social media sites like facebook, twitter,
linked in, stumbled upon, Google+. When on Google+ I also share my post with
all the communities I am a part of. These are online marketing and home business
communities. This does brings me some traffic but not really what I am looking for.
I will be trying Tribe Pro in the next few weeks. I'll let everyone know how it went.

Mischa.
