Football and Network Marketing - What do they have in common

After spending the afternoon (1/10) watching the Baltimore Ravens and the Tenessee Titans battling it out, a thought occured to me.  How does this relate to my business?  More than you would actually think.

Before playing a game - you need a game plan. The team just does not go blindly into playing another team.  That game plan is then broken down into 4 quarters.  There are also specific plays put into that game plan.  And in those plays, those are in turn broken down to cover different scenarios. You also see during the game that the coach refers to his plan for every play.

In Network Marketing, MLM, or any Home Based Business, you too, need a business (game) plan.  Where do you want to go?  How are you going to get there?  Are you planning on just muddling through?  Maybe go 0 - 16 like the Detroit Lions?  Or do you have a vision?  Aiming for the playoffs?  The Super Bowl?   Well, in order to do that, you need a business (game) plan.

Your business plan then needs to be broken down into 4 quarters.  (Funny, there are 4 quarters in the year).  What steps/goals (plays) are you going to have to conquer in order to complete your business plan?  When you complete your first step/goal (first down), what is your next step/goal to get you across that goal line (touchdown)?  Then we have to think about finishing the game.  What if we lose that game?  What if we get hit hard like the one Ray Lewis threw down on Ahman Hall today?  You hang onto the ball, get the first down, and you pick up your helmet and get ready for the next play.  One of my favorite quotes from a movie is from Batman. "Why do we fall?  So we can learn to pick ourselves up."

We are already almost 2 weeks into 2009.  Do you have your game plan?  Is it in motion?  Your Game plan will propel you through what is going to be a turbulent year with the economy.  Refer to your plan often and make corrections where needed.  Get help from a coach, or mentor.  Go to your upline, downline, or sideline, you would be surprised at the number of those that actually do have a plan and they stick to it. Make your goals attainable.  Share them with your team.  Having someone there to help you when you stumble and cheering when you succeed can mean the difference in you sticking to your plan and achieving your goals.

So as you watch the rest of the playoff games and the superbowl the next few weeks, think about what the owners, coaches, and players have all put into getting to where they are today.  Without a plan, they would be sitting there today watching the games on TV.

Get your business plan done and in motion to propel you to success in 2009.
