Group: Becoming a Strong LeaderOne of the things that destroy organizations is back-biting. It is amazing to me how people are reluctant to get in a room and air out all the grievances and issues. There can be no problem-solving without good communication. Every party to a disagreement should be heard before a leader renders a judgment. You will be burned if you don't. After the issue is resolved, then you will need to move on and make sure the team does as well. Maturity dictates that you don't keep re-hashing past differences. The person who does should be asked to leave the team.

Back-Biting
The suggestion to get in a room and air out the grievances has always held a question in my mind as to why this does not get done. The whole world would benefit from it if, for instance, this would happen when the leaders would be really concerned for the well-being of those following, or looking up to them for their guidance and help. There are few leaders who are willing to take this step to honestly find a solution. Does it perhaps hang on the thread of losing ones position?
I can only give an example as a mother of a "team" I know how easy it is to make a decision due to the fact that there seems no other way around to clear the situation. Mostly a decision is then made because of the difficulty to define the problem, or because one has to hold respect. May not be so wrong, the main thing is then to see that those involved on both sides get treated rightly and justly and that the situation does not leave any bad air in the room one has just left. Which comes back to the thought mentioned "there can be no problem-solving without good communication". Thanks for the reminder, Dr.Campbell.
