Making a Forum Signature and Tips That Get the "Click"

Forum marketing through signatures and the links contained within them is a powerful way to build relationships. It's like leaving your business card but with out the wasted paper!

Getting it right starts with first knowing how to set it up and a basic principles that help you to "Get The Click".

A big part of my monthly traffic comes from signature links that I have in a few hand selected forums... Better networker being one of the best. If you would like to experience a steady strwam of targeted traffic I'll show you how to create a killer forum signature.

If you're reading this, I hope your logged in because you must be to make any profile modifications (duh, right? :-) ).

Go to your profile.

Click on "User Control Panel".

You'll see blue folder tabs that say "Overview", "Profile", "Board preferences"... Choose "Profile".

Under profile, select "Edit Signature" and say something short and sweet that will "Get The Click"!

Making A Hyper Link to Your Blog, Website etc.

First, a word of advice: Do not, under any circumstances send anyone to your replicated or network marketing corporate site. It would be about as productive as not having a signature link at all... Real People HATE boring replicated sites and so should you if you are a professional.

That being said choose your links carefully then highlight your words with your mouse and hit the "URL" button next to the "Img" button. a popup box will prompt you to enter the destination of "the click".

For example this is mine: [url=http://www.getpaidtoprospectonline.com/mlmsuccesstraining.html]www.GetPaidToProsectOnline.com[/url]

The www.GetPaidToProspectOnline.com is what turns into a blue hyper link, and also the destination when click but, of course, could be any descriptive word.

What Usually Gets "The Click"?

What causes your potential prospect to click has to be a lot more subtle that saying, "Click My Link Below". Let your actual post do the heavy lifting for you.

In other words, say something meaningful, thoughtful, believable and valuable...even if your just asking a question. Be as bold as you can be without being fake and don't make apologies for long posts. Say as much or as little as you need to say to make a complete thought.

A Few Tips So NOT To Repel Potential Prospects...

Don't use more than 2 or 3 links. You come across like a pushy peddler. Just pick 1 to 3 links at a time that would be most helpful to your target audience. Remember, now you know how to do it, you can easily change up at any time and test which work best.

To Siggies that "Get The Click",

Malika

Let Your Post Do The Heavy Lifting

That's great advice Malika. It's sometimes hard to grasp that your signature doesn't work by itself. It is just another part of your whole 'get the click' strategy.

A post that offers value will get infinitely more clicks than a blatant ad.

And a great tip that Dean shared in one of the discussions (and he has the cheek to call me 'sneaky' pfft! ), is to create a new post in the discussion forum and use it to create your signature. You can use all the formatting options to change the colour, font, size, etc as well as adding the hyperlink to the words which you want to be the 'clickable' part of the signature. Preview and tweak until you're happy with the look of it, then copy and paste it into your profile signature.

Kudos...Excellent :)

This is an excellent post Malika and I do hope everybody reads it and MOST IMPORTANTLY uses it!

Using this SIMPLE technique generates more traffic than any other because it is Passive.  I use these techniques all the time...it's a Call To Action and I totally agree with leaving just 1 link that catches people's curiosity.

Thanks for sharing this with the community.

Thank you guys!

I'm just bridging the gap from "newbie to guru" because I know how it feels to "feel" like Dunce and having too much pride to ask! I figure we just lay it all out...

Hi Malika

very good advice thank you.  I don't visit this forum as often as I should as I am only just getting started on videos and using things properly - there seem many like minded people here who are fans of Dillard and Carbon Copy Pro (who wouldn't be?) - I hope those who don't know about Attraction Sponsorship and Marketing will open their minds to this way of working - once you do it all seems so obvious.  Good luck everyone!

Can any one help

Hi I have just joined BN and created my signature as Malika instructed. Tested it out by posting to a forum, and it doesn't come up?

Help?

Any suggestions

Tania

Hi Tania

I did the same - It may have to wait for approval - I posted a comment in the help section of the forum and when I reviewed it the signature was there which was a bit embarrassing! Forums differ in how they work and how quickly - why not try again - maybe my signature will not come up this time?? Good wishes

No it didn't come up

I typed in my URL so the signature might not work in these postings without typing it in.  I'll keep searching for the answer...

Good wishes

Which Forum

Hi Tania

Which forum topic did you post on? Have you tried the tip about creating your signature in an actual post and then just copying it into your control panel? (remember not to submit the post, lol)

The 'user control panel' is located right under the 'board index' when you log into the forums. Simply click on 'profile' as Malika says and paste in your signature.

Note that the signatures are only for the forums. They don't carry across to articles, blogs or group postings!

Hope this helps.

Thank You so Much!

Thank you for the easy to follow step-by-step instructions on HOW to make a signature link.

There is sooo much information when a person starts, that it is overwhelming to a part time networker.

I appreciate your help!  :)

Will my signature link show up here automatically now?  Janet

*****I clicked Preview Comment and did not see my signature link that I just created....????

Signatures only appear in

Signatures only appear in your forum posts Janet. I guess you need to think of the site as in two parts. The forums are for posts/discussions and at the top of the forum page you will see a link to the "User Control Panel". Clicking on that enables you to edit your 'forum' profile, including your signature.

The rest of the site, including articles/blogs/groups doesn't yet have the facility for creating a signature link, so if you want to include a signature at the bottom of your comments in this area of the site, then you would need to include it manually.

To do this simply save a copy of forum 'signature' and then whenever you write an article/blog or post a comment to someone else's, you can simply 'copy and paste' the signature at the end.

You might want to have separate signatures, depending upon what you are doing on the site. You could create one (or several) to put at the end of any articles/blogs you submit. Think of this as your 'author resource box!. You could have another one for the forums and one for group posts and comments.

Just remember to name them accordingly so you don't get them mixed up, and put your group signature at the end of an article.

Hope this helps.

Here's The *Tech-Speak* For Building A Signature Line

As always Malika, spot on.

I did want to add a link to a post I did on my blog that goes into the actual HTML or BBCode necessary to build a signature line in any forum. Please note that this forum uses BBCode.

Examples Of Signature Lines

Hope this helps implement your great advice!

Thank you Malika

Thank you for this post Malika.  I do have a signature but I did not have a tagline or catchy phrase with my link.  I also need to get my own website up and running, which I am working on now.

Forum marketing is a great free marketing method. It is true.

Malika

I love forum marketing. I have generated great income with forum marketing. It is free method and it does require time but with the right focus it is easily done.

I agree having a personal site or blog in signature is the best way to do it not only because replicated sites are boring but  because google spiders just do not like affiliate links.

Anyway great advice. I am going to give you a call tomorrow Malika.

Sincerely
