Real Time Steps To Success for Newbies

Hey There Folks

I'm finally stepping out of "Information Overload Analysis Paralysis" and stepping into Action.  Geez-o-Flip my first couple of weeks was scary.  I counted over 117 new messages (I stopped counting there) in my inbox from everybody & their grandma weighing in on the best approach to mastering this Internet Marketing Game.  Much of it was pretty helpful but I realized that if I'm gonna make any headway at this I definitely need to SIMPLIFY.

I won't go into the Meat & Potatoes of "here's what to do next.  But here are just a few steps that I took to help me ride the wave of information that came at me when I decided to jump in.  They have a lot to do with the type of people you want to direct connect to first & foermost.

1. Align yourself with or follow one well established expert.  To begin with you don't need to plug into too many schools of thought.  SEO, Attraction Marketing, Ebook Writing, Social Media... Trying to understand it all at once gave me the deer in headlights look.  Down the line you'll see that they are all  connected anyway.  So for now choose one you feel comfortable with & let the relationship building begin.

2. Find a few (just a few) people who may be just a couple steps ahead of you to rub shoulders with.  You will definitely need someone to bounce ideas off of  & give you feedback in your own language.  This will shorten your learning curve. The buddy system was always good to me.  Wow I miss elementary school.  :-)  Start building relationships with peers.

3. Shake hands & make friends with a newbie.  If you see someone new to all this with that dazed & confused look.  Don't try to sell 'em anything.  Introduce yourself & welcome them to the promised land.  Let everybody else splash them with albeit good but overwhelming knowledge.  You attract them to you, cultivate a friendship, add value to their experience with no strings attached.

Social Networking....its all about building relationships.

Great Advice.

Teaching someone else is the best way to learn something yourself.

(Did I just admit the reason I help people is purely selfish?) :0

Great Idea,

Vernon,

I just decided to follow that very advice last night after going through Ray and Ferny's SEO Networker Video series.... I think what they are offering will get me focused and making money. It launches tomorrow and I have been searching around only a short time but was definately getting in overload mode.

I truly believe in the powers of attraction and knew God was not going to let me lose too much time, although I did learn alot so far from everyone and am very greatful.

good ideas

Vernon

good sound acvice and also remember as you build those realtionships to express to your new friends the importance of having an awereness of developing habits of mindset. and setting up a ongoing practice of keeping your thought process in a focused mode.ive been at it going on two years and im now getting ready to explode my business .i was in overload mode  95 %of the time but i wanted to absorb every piece of data i could on each thing i did .it was quite overwhelming but ...i learned another importan point.. as focused as you may get you must always find a few minutes of your time a couple times a week to reevealute your point of focus and reorganize your thought process.this keeps your mind in direct focus and doesnt allow the things that you pick up by accident all week start to begin to pile up without you even noticing it...i get about3 to 4 hundred emails a day into my main home email box(which i change about every6 months )and a thousand spams a day .so in order to even be able to read any mail i have to limit myself to a certain period i allow myself to spend each day.and its usually a half hour in the morning and ahalf hour at nite.but its the only way you can stay in real time touch with your good relationships  .your  advice is good and sound just wanted to give you a couple extra things to include in your own .its amazing how many things you pick up during the week that actually are in your thought process everyday that you dont even realize your thinking about ..its just good practice to take even 10 minutes a week to see if you are letting anything else into your "focus funnel"as you might say.thanks for the tips......

Jeanette Malowski — Thu, 12/11/2008 - 10:05am

Anytime

Hi Jeanette,

Feel free to message me via the link on my profile if you think I can help.

We need to decide what your end goal is and then figure out the steps that will get you there.

It isn't as complicated as it looks, but it can be a lot of work depending on what you want to achieve.

All the best,
Dean.

Thanks Vernon

Great advise and value.  I'm with you, Vernon. I've had that "deer in headlights look" as well. Fortunately, I've been aware of Social Media & Networking in my life for sometime now...just not the extent that pertains to the internet.

I believe that knowledge has some power. Without getting knowledge overload, I can take some knowledge I learn from Social Networking, and with filters and FOCUS, I gain the "rights" to help others.

Ain't that the truth!

Vernon,

I know exactly how this feels.  This is pretty new to me, too.  After the vertigo settles, I'm able to move forward.  Pretty soon, I start feeling like a pro...well, maybe not quite.  Sure doesn't hurt to have someone to connect with.  Thanks for sharing.

Donnalynn Polito — Thu, 12/11/2008 - 8:59pm

Thanks for reading my post I hope it was helpful.

I'm actually writing this before taking the time to look at your profile page but feel free to drop me a line via direct message & let me know what you need. I'll gladly do what I can to promote you.

I thought I was alone!

What a great post, Vernon.  Thank you for sharing.   Just what I needed and perfectly timed, too.

It's comforting to a newbie to know others have been here, survived and prospered.

Susan Martin — Mon, 12/29/2008 - 1:31am

Very good advice.

I think overwhelm is one of the major detering factors to succeeding. You have a very concise, down to earth practical approach which I'm sure will help you--and many others too.

Thanks for the post.

Meat & Potatoes

So Vernon, when do you think you will get into the "meat and potatoes" of what to do next?  Your advise is great, and I would like to hear some more of what you're learning:-)  Thanks for sharing!

How True!

Vernon,

I agree, the first couple of months learning about SEO2.0 were awesome and yet ovewhelming. Then, fortunately for me, Ferny and Ray launched SEO Networker Mastermind Group. It cost a grand but I am serious about becomeing successful. So far I have learned a ton and feel more focused and confident  now that I have cut out all the fluff.

The free stuff  you find everywhere is great to wet you feet but you have got to pay to play sometimes. The way I look at it, I need to get serious and make money NOW!

This requires focus and staying tight with your coaches and not jumping from one leader/coach to another.

I am a newbie but not a dummie and the rabbit hole was keeping me from getting locked in with a leader or leaders so I could get serious

It was tough to choose before I caught this opportunity, because there are so many great supportive leaders here at BN and so much to learn and so many opportunities.

I am very excited about 2009 and what this mastermind group will do for me. I hope and believe the investment will be worth it and more

Will keep you posted.

Getting Ranked #2 & #3 on a google search

Hey guys I'm so excited that I don't even know where I'm supposed to be posting this. I found a small niche to target. I blogged & did a few squidoo lenses on "Recession Proof Passive Income". I did a search on google and my post is listed in the 2nd & 3rd positions. Yeah SEO is fun stuff especially when it doesn't cost much to learn.

I still can't figure out how to add a signature to all my posts here at BN though. :-(

5%

Susan

I heard that 5% of the newbies stick around long enough to start making money consistently with internet marketing. If you hang in there & put your shoulder to the boulder next year this time it'll be you and me getting promoted throughout the universe by Mike Dillard. :-)

Vernon Harleston — Mon, 12/29/2008 - 11:05pm

Excellent

Hi Vernon,

I am still a newbie too! I am learning to simplify.  It is hard to not get the deer in the headlights look :)

I feel like I have been reading in here alot as well as getting spammed in my email.  Only I guess you can't really call it spam if you subscribe to a program.  It seems that when you do that you get every affiliate in the program emailing you and I have actually been so overwhelmed here in the last couple of days that i am just starting to delete them without even reading, On some of them I unsubscribe.

My coach tells me all the time not to analize paralize myself, Keep it simple all that good stuff and now I have my office almost ready for video production and I am excited.  I have focus and a plan.

My biggest "Fear" is that my plans unfortunately tend to change due to unforseen stuff and sometimes it is hard to get back on track.  That is when lately I come in here and read inspiring posts like this one.

Thank you.

Kim~medhat141

P.s I wrote my very first article in here the other day and while it is kinda long I would greatly appreciate some feed back.  It is called "New technology in an aging society" Please let me know what you think,  I do welcome input good bad or ugly as I won't learn anything if people of too nice or polite, But be kind please.

Hey Dean

Your lens on Squidoo Tips is a BIG help to me. Thanks for making your presence felt & meeting my need. You gotta teach me some New Zealand Terminology so when I come visit I'll be hip & up to date not like a tourist. :-)
